If you can filter through all the bullshit, there's lots of great information on why circumcising your infant is no longer necessary.

I am not posting this for drama. I am not posting opinion as fact, because many of you fail to realise that there are new studies that do back up everything I say. Stating that circ prevents HIV is also an opinion of some in the medical community. It is not fact. Cleaner to circ? That is opinion as well. Not painful for a fully awake infant who has felt NOTHING before? Opinion. We are all guilty of having opinions. And no matter where you look, this is the internet and you will be able to find enough information to back ANY claim. What we need to be able to do it filter through and know what is a reputable source and what is not. I get a lot of my beginning information from mothering magazine(http://mothering.com , http://www.mothering.com/discussions/forumdisplay.php?f=44 )

I would love to see more young moms getting away from the "it looks better" "it's cleaner" stigma. It's a necessary body part which provides many functions to the male. These benefits are lost when the foreskin is removed. It also(according to thousands of men http://forums.menshealth.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/789103123/m/1451053144) doesn't hurt to get done as an adult. In fact, most have no record of pain when circ'd as an adult. Personally, if my son REALLY wants it taken off, I will pay for it. However, if he is like the many other circ'd men out there, he may want his foreskin back. But he wouldn't be able to get it back.

Please take time to know fully what you are doing to your unconsenting infant for a cosmetic purpose.

I don't even plan on circumcising my son ever. His dad isn't, so he doesn't want him to be.

I dont have a son.. but if i ever had a son. I really don't know what i would do.
I think i would wait until he could make that decision for himself as an adult.

Stating it is necessary is opinion.

It certainly has a function, but is not necessary. A heart or lungs on the other hand are necessary.

The US is the only place that does it routinely. The other developed countries don't because it's medically unnecessary. It's still done here because it makes certain people $$$.

As parents become more informed on the issue, the rate has been dropping in the US. It used to be over 90%, and now it's down to about 50%. Soon, circumcised boys will be the minority in our country. :)
