I just found out 5-22-09 when I went for my second ultrasound that there was some problems with my baby. Every test was fine except the baby had a cleft lip and pallet. And the babys brian is not fully developed. I'm 21 weeks and 3 days and I have to go to Charlottesville to see a doctor about why this has happened. Some say it's spontaneous but some say it could be genetics. I don't know what they will tell me but I will opt to have the baby induced and have an autopsy done. So they can tell me more about it. This is my first child.. And I have to let it go. Because there is a slim to no chance that it would live if I went full term. I keep asking myself why me. Out of all I have been through and all the people that have died I think this is going to be the hardest out of all them. My heart is breaking everytime I think about it. And I have had my heart broken alot but not like this. I think this is the hardest thing I will every have to do. I have come this far and now I have to give it up. And let God take it to a better place. I'm having a really hard time keeping my head on straight. But is there anyone else who can relate?

Why do you want to terminate the pregnancy? If I were in your shoes and there was even the SMALLEST chance of the baby living.. I'd go full term. The brain is SO amazing. The parts that are there will grow to make up the parts that are missing.. it's called plasticity.

I am very sorry for the devestating news you got yesterday. But mama you need to go to that specialist and make sure that this is for sure before you do anything drastic.Just so you nkow the brain can develop later than normal, as can other parts of the body andultrasounds are not always correct,If you do end up inducing and delivering the baby have you decided what you will do if they baby is attempting to breath or what not? sometimes babies are amazing miracles and can survive anything. just keep your hopes up, I hope that the specialist can help diagnose whats doing on and give you a ray of light. I do pray that your baby makes it through and this is not as severe as they are thinking right now. god bless dear...

I don't know if I could opt to be induced and have an autopsy. Sonograms aren't 100% accurate. I'd have to go full term, deliver, and see what happened from there. Even if there is something wrong with him/her there's a great possibility, with todays technology and medcal advancements, that it can be fixed!! Don't get to down on yourself, momma, think positive.
