Blood clot behind placenta Tickled Pink & Blue x2 Due March 3; 4 kids; 5 angel babies; California 6168 posts

Hi all,
so about a week ago I went to the ER for bleeding I had. I’m 16 weeks pregnant and in the u/s they found a 5cm blood clot behind the placenta which is also lying low in the uterus.

After 5 miscarriages, it scares the hell out of me. I was wondering if anyone has been in a similar or same situation and how was the out come of the pregnancy? My doctor has been no help and pretty much says to continue doing whatever I want because if I lose the baby there’s nothing me nor her could have done. Bleeding has stopped and I’ve been taking it easy since.

Im a nervous mess despite my best effort in remaining calm. Thanks in advance for any replies!

From what I'm reading, it depends on the size of the clot. It should be absorbed eventually and could have no affect on the baby or pregnancy. However, bigger clots, which yours may be a bigger clot, could cause some complications and make your pregnancy higher risk. It also seems like larger clots can up your risk of miscarriage. Hopefully it's not a bigger clot. I disagree with your OB and I would take things very easy. I would put myself on some type of bed rest. Sorry but her mentality is not cool in my opinion and I'd be seeking a new OB. There are things you can do to possibly help your baby and even if it doesn't help, you know you tried. I wouldn't have sex or take hikes for miles. I'd put my feet up and rest as much as I could. Did the ob order another scan to check on things in a few weeks? I would expect that as well...you never know, it may absorb or it may linger but you can't tell unless you get another ultrasound. Praying this clot doesn't cause you to loose another baby. I can only imagine the fear you have and the pain you've already gone through.

I had one with my third pregnancy. Started bleeding early in the pregnancy (thought I had a miscarriage at about 6 weeks) and continued bleeding throughout the pregnancy. My water ended up breaking at 25 weeks and I delivered at 27 weeks. This was almost 20 years ago.
