Daycare late fee acceptable? JdotMarie TTC since May 2014; 2 kids; United States 1156 posts

Hey there,
If you ladies wouldn't mind giving me your thoughts I would appreciate it...

My daughter has been at an in home daycare for one year. $145/wk is the toddler rate. Today was payment day and I planned to pay her for one week. My daughters dad sent me his week of payment through PayPal. My bank was having major technical issues and wasn't processing phone calls or PayPal transfers for 3 hours.
I needed to pay daycare by 5:30pm for next week. (NOT for this past week that was paid weeks a go).

I called her back at 7:30pm letting her know my banks issues  resolved and I could give her payment ... Daycare lady now says I owe her $100 late fee on top of my $145 payment because she won't be accepting payments again until Monday which makes my payment two days late.

I have never paid late not once, I've never picked my daughter up late or anything so no previous bad vibes for her to go off of

Whoa. That seems extremely unreasonable.

Am I being dramatic for wanting to look for a different daycare? I mean whatever I'll give her her damn money, but I don't think that's fair at all. There are other things that have rubbed me the wrong way in the past but I always blew them off.

Did you have to sign any type of contract with that in it? $100 is pretty insane. My youngest son’s daycare charges $3 for a late payment.

I understand her charging a late fee, especially if you didn't contact her about your bank issues til after payment was due... But $100 fee is absolutely nuts. I could see maybe $20 on the high end, but damn lol.

I don't blame you for wanting to look elsewhere for childcare though, I probably would too after that. Surprised
