I just had my first ultrasound done. My dr was figuring I was due December 17th but I thought I was closer to December 27th. Well, I guess I was right. At my ultrasound (which was transvaginal) it showed only a gestational sac that measured 5 weeks exactly. So my question is, is it normal to only see a gestational sac at this point? Is there a difference between a yolk sac and a gestational sac? I've never had an ultrasound this early and it's freaking me out.
Yes very normal.
A gestational sac is what the baby lives in and it's the first thing that can be detected on ultrasound. The yolk is what the baby feeds from till the placenta is fully formed and takes over.
I went in thinking i was about 7 weeks with this pregnancy. Ultrasound showed nothing but the gestational sac. Measured 5 weeks exactly. They did blood work and HCG lvl that coincided with 5 weeks. Went back 2 weeks later saw a baby with healthy heartbeat :)
Yes, it's normal.
Ok thanks so much ladies.
It sounds normal, one of the reasons they did not give me a ultrasound my first OB appointment last week. I have a ultrasound coming may 6th and I should be around 8 weeks then and will hopefully see something. Good luck mama
