How long does the newly found climbing stage last? My 1 y/o has learned how to climb on chairs and tables. I've blocked off the areas that I could and hidden what furniture I was able to. He's still able to climb on the glass end tables, though. (They hold our table lamps because we have no built-in lighting in the living room.) What else can I do to deter him from climbing on things he shouldn't? I tell him no and remove him and redirect him to a toy, but he still does it and now DS1 helps and encourages him. I'm running around like a headless chicken every day trying to keep him off of things lol I forgot how exhausting a one year old is!

I wish had an answer for you. My third child loved to climb he started around his first birthday. He just turned five and still climbs on every thing. He has learned he can fall and is a little more cautious but that didn't kick in until about 3

Once they start they never stop 38

my 16 month old is the same, climbs everything. No advice really, just keep removing and redirecting. You can start explaining that he will get hurt, but that wont really sink in for another year or so.

Dd2 is 2 and still climbs on everything. She is starting gymnastics this summer. She tumbles around the house now too. She is constantly flipping off furniture and stuff. I am just waiting for our first ER visit.

I always just blocked everything off, I didn't even care how it looked. f1c1c3cf14916f40239dd30b2fe93bb1.jpg

I was a horrible nag to my children. If they climbed, I immediately took them down and said "NO!" and hovered them, repeating if they climbed again until they went elsewhere.

I mean ... it worked? They didn't climb SHIT they weren't supposed to after a short while.

Right now I have baby gates and our huge christmas tree tote blocking off all exits from the living room. EmbarassedSuper Happy

Haha good luck. My 1 year old climbs on everything as well. We got rid of our coffee table and use an over sized ottoman. We have this GIANT baby gate (its actually a playard but we use it open like a big gate) and close off the end table and fireplace and bookshelf in our living room.

I also throw the couch cushions on the floor during the day. He loves it and focuses on climbing all over those and he can climb onto the couch and not hurt himself falling off since its not so high without the cushions.
our living room looks like a tornado hit it during the day, but I throw it back together after the kids go to bed and DH and I want to watch some TV lol

Our living room is so oddly configured. I wish I could gate it all off like that lol and our couch cushions aren't removable. I want to get rid of our tables for something solid wood, but they have sentimental value to DH so he won't part with them. Guess this is just going to be one of those "phases" I'll have to wait out haha

We have a coffee table and an end table in our basement that are practically brand new. DH bought them a week before he met me. They have a wood base and glass tops that just sit on the base. The first time DS1 went into DHs apartment he was 2 and leaned on the glass and it flipped up. Luckily I was right there and caught it before it could hurt him or break but right then and there DH was like, oh no... I love my tables, but they can't stay. They have been in storage since and we've bought new coffee tables and ottomans but DH still refuses to just let me sell those glass tables lol!
