Newborn heart murmur Lyla & Maxwell's Mommy 3 kids; 2 angel babies; Wisconsin 1576 posts

DS was born with a slight murmur. We were assured it was mild and quite common. At his 3 month appointment the pedi said it was gone. DS had his 3 year old check up and the pedi said she can hear it. This is the first time in over 2 1/2 years. Is this normal??. DH took him to the appointment and didnt ask any questions.

I called this morning and am still waiting for a call back. Also, DS is having his tubes removed next week. Is it safe to put him under with a heart murmur?

Yes it's safe to put them under. They monitor them anyways. Ds1 was born with a pfo, which is a hole between the two chambers which is supposed to shut when they take their first breath but since he was a csection baby his stayed. He was put under for tubes and will be going under again on the 24th for a new set of tubes and to take his adenoids out so he will be completely put under and intubated.

My youngest has a murmur, his PFO is open. We go to the cardiologist in May to see if it has closed. They say that by 6 months in age that it usually closes.

Curious about his murmur, did you have any appts with a cardiologist to determine that the murmur def went away or was it just your pediatrician?

depends what's causing the murmur, but I would assume it wouldn't conflict with anesthesia. that would be a good question to ask his pediatrician though.

No because they said it was gone at 3 months. I'm so confused. It's the first dr appointment I wasn't able to go to and of course something like this happens. Ughh

DD had one at birth it was gone by 3 weeks old. they've never said anything about hearing it again (she's 2.5). Also lots of people go their whole life with a murmur so i wouldnt be concerned unless the dr was

6 months? My ds's cardiologist said a year..we never followed up though because they closed up the office and couldn't get a referral  to anyone else. They never told me anesthesia would bother it or him just to have extra filters put on any IV he may get.

I was finally able to get in touch with with pedi and she said she has never heard this before and is referring us to a cardiologist.  I hope everything is ok with my baby boy.

We had something similar... could hear it afterbirth. Then nothing. But then again dr could hear something odd everytime dd was sick. She was checked by cardiologist and all is ok.

The pediatric cardiologist is squeezing us in tomorrow thankfully.  DS's ear tubes are being rejected and he's in a lot of pain. The surgery is scheduled for Tuesday and I would hate to move it.

My 6 month old has a few things wrong that we are told are normal infant findings. She has a calcium deposit, hole in her heart, a murmur, and then there's two spots where valves should of closed but hadn't yet. The cardiologist thinks it will all be gone by 1 year old.
But at 6 weeks she had a hospital admission for a UTI. Out of 9 different drs only ONE heard the murmur that sent us to the cardiologist. Sometimes they are just barely noticeable.
I'm sure your LO is okay.

I think it's possible the murmur never actually went away. DH had a newborn murmur that didn't go way until age 7. I just think it's WERID the same pediatrician wouldn't have heard it. We only see her.  Thanks, I sure hope so!

This is what DS has!  It has a name (which I can't remember) but is completely harmless. Thank goodness!
