Chicken pox vaccine.. is this normal? nataliealexis♥ 1 child; 1 angel baby; ., IL, United States 988 posts

I noticed today that my 16 month old has a red bump where he got the chicken pox vaccine a few weeks ago. There is a red ring around it. It doesn't seem to bother him, but I can't find anything on the papers they gave me saying that could happen. I also can't find anything online. He jerked his arm when he was given the vaccine and the needle fell out, so I'm also. It sure if that could be why there is a red bump that has lasted this long. I'm going to call the pedi tomorrow since they are closed now. Anyone have any experience??

Why did they give the vaccine in the arm? They usually don't do that til much older because of the chance of hitting the bone. Plus the thigh has more muscle in kids that age.

I would think though it should be healed by now.

Hm, DS2 just got his pox vax and it was in the arm. He is a giant baby though, 95th for weight and 80th for height, so he's got some girthy arms.
