Potty Training HELP! Abigail_M Due March 22; 1 child; Massachusetts 129 posts

My oldest son is 3.5 and he has complete control over his potty habits. He is dry after naps and even through the night as well and is excellent with using his potty for pee. The problem is that he REFUSES to go poop anywhere except in his diaper. We have tried so many different things and I am at a loss as to get over this last hurdle with him. If we don't let him have a diaper to poop, he literally holds it in for days on end until he is shaking and crying from discomfort and needs a suppository to help him. It's heartbreaking and I feel like now he has even more of a mental block about using the toilet for #2. Anyone else have similar issues? I have given up and don't even mention it anymore to try and give him some time to "forget" about his last unpleasant poop experience.....but I am SO tired of the cycle. Ideas??

I gave DS a suppository and sat him on the toilet to poop. After that he always pooped in the potty. He was potty trained fine when it came to peeing but pooping was another story. We would give him a suppository anyway for constipation issues so I decided to try it by sitting him on the toilet.

I agree with this. Just to show him its okay to poop on the potty.
