Does this look normal? Mombie+3 3 kids; That place, Pa, United States 3191 posts

I've noticed for a little while dd gets these reddish purple bags under her eyes. I really didn't think anything of it until I saw a post on instagram of a little girl who had neuroblastoma an was diagnosed at 19 months. Dd just turned 18 months and I know it doesn't show at a certain age, but it's making me paranoid. Anyway, does this look normal to you? I'm thinking it's just sleepy eyes and what not but still I'm crazy and need reassurance.

sorry it's sideways.

It could be a sign of low iron which is very common in toddlers but should be addressed/treated.  I would call your pediatrician.  They may want to check her iron levels or reccomend a supplement.  I don't think it's emergent but I'd bring it up to them.

eta don't stress mama I don't think bags under the eyes alone are ANYTHING to worry about.

When we checked all that out at her 9 month appointment we had a scare with it being extremely high. After 3 sticks and ending up going to the hospital to have it drawn turned out everything was completely fine and it was a false high reading. Could her iron drop all of a sudden?

I would bring it up to her Dr. Do her eyes look like that all the time or just when she's tired? My youngest DD has circles and bags under her eyes when she's really tired or sick.

ETA: I get bags and circles under my eyes, I think she just inherited it. Here's a pic of my youngest. You can kinda see it.

They only look that bad when she's tired, or just got out of the bath usually. She has really veiny under eyes and eyelids too, not sure if they could have anything to do with it.

Here's a picture from a little bit ago, and besides her being extremely annoyed with the flash she looks normal?

Yes it does look normal. I wouldn't be too concerned. She is really pale and maybe has thinner skin around her eyelids so it shows more when she's tired.

Well, if it IS an iron issue, I'm sure iron levels could change a lot between 9 -18 months if they were on formula and then stopped.  Could be something to look into. The pic you posted in your last post look s totally fine to me, I think she is fine but couldn't hurt to call the pedi about possibly getting iron levels checked !

It looks fine. She looks like she is just sleepy. Both my dd's get bags under their eyes from time to time. Bags under your eyes aren't a sign of leukemia in itself. Pale skin, unexplained night fevers, unusual bruising, excessive tiredness all are though. I have an irrational fear when it comes to leukemia, every time my girls get sick I have myself convinced they have it. It's definitely my biggest fear.

I was just reading over the other responses and see that your DD is mixed with Filipino. So are my dd's and they all get dark bags under their eyes. DH sister had them too when she was younger and still gets them from time to time. It could very well be a trait from her dad.

Bags under the eyes could mean so many things.

The most common reasons are lack of sleep, illness (like a cold), allergies, or just hereditary.
