Any mommas open to sharing techniques that have worked with helping child to speak?

Also on days you feel overwhelmed with your feelings, how do you manage? Do you have other moms that can relate? Are you active in a support group for parents.

Ds is almost five now. He was badically non verbal until 3. We started spending a lot of time with his slightly older cousins and about 6 months later he was talking like there was never a delay. Now he's using all kinds of words most kids his age don't know

eta: when I felt overwhelmed I tried to remind myself that I wasn't dealing with the toddler 'tude

Are you doing speech therapy? My brother who is on the autism spectrum had to do the speech therapy for a few years. The younger you start the better i believe.

My brother did speech therapy and my mom worked with him with exercises the therapist suggested. He was nonverbal until around 4 years old. He is 15 now and never stops talking!
He was diagnosed when he was 2 1/2 or 3 years.

We have been doing speech therapy since August. I have seen improvement in other areas except he hasn't spoken any words. He said mama for first time two weeks ago. I have received many resources which Ill be utilizing.

I've just found it personally hard to relate with some other moms with my own feelings. Sometimes feel too isolated with thoughts. I have a couple close friends and they've been very supportive. I feel like DS is doing pretty good right now, at this age just that the challengers have yet to truly begun.

That's encouraging, thank you! It's hard questioning and waiting for him to speak.

N will be 5 next month, he was diagnosed with Autism at age 3, he was nonverbal when he was diagnosed, we did speech for almost 2 years and it didn't seem to help, we put him in ABA therapy last year in November and he's speech just came at him, I guess he needed other kids to be around for his speech to develop, he still has problems pronouncing words, but there's times when I can shut him up lol

I understand. When my brother was diagnosed, autism wasn't as known about as it is now. I know I had never heard of it. Doctors dismissed my mom's concerns that there was something different about him for years.
Hopefully with all the advances your little one will get all the therapy and care he or she needs.

As for support groups, I would look online in your area. Or depending on the age of your child, look into Special Olympics. Sometimes doctor's offices or therapy offices have information on autism support groups. Even county assistance offices offer autism services.

Thanks for a tip! DS doesn't sign either. That's amazing to watch the growth!
