http://www.alison.com

I've been taking a few courses here and I was wondering if anyone has graduated from Alison and got certified or got a degree from them? How much does the certificate or diploma cost? Did you get hired with a career after going to school there? Did you hear of Alison being a scam or fake?

Can never be to careful lol TIA

I decided to do a bit of research and I found this:
"The main drawback of the ALISON free online course system is that it is not accredited at all. The courses do follow industry standards, but it is up to your particular employer whether they choose to recognize the ALISON Certificate or Diploma as legitimate proof of knowledge."
This is something to really take into consideration. But then the review goes on to say:
"Overall, I believe that the ALISON free online courses are well worth the time you put into them. If nothing else, you will gain knowledge and a sense of personal fulfillment for taking the time to learn the course you choose to learn, without the expense of a university or community college if you choose not to continue past the one course, or to even drop the course once you have started. If your current or future employer recognizes ALISON certificates and diplomas, it could very well boost your career and give additional credibility to your skills and abilities."

So it's free classes? Even if it isn't recognized I think it would be a good idea to do the online courses to see if its something you want to spend money on pursuing.

All of this. Thats biggest issue with doing online school is the majority do not have accreditation and therefore your degree could mean nothing.

If the website is a .com it is not accredited. If it is a .edu it is.

hmm..I'm kind of interested! lol...it never hurts to learn something..and it is free! You can always take the course and then try out for some jobs...you would just have to be honest with them. What course are you taking?

No problem. It just makes finding legitimate schools more difficult. You need to actually do some research.

To answer your question, Alison Online School is not accredited and a total waste of your time.

That is the one thing I did research on before starting my college career. Whether this is free or not, your time is not free and rather valuable. I wouldn't even consider doing this.

Bottom line, we can all agree it is not accredited, but definitely a great resource for anyone who enjoys learning other subjects or want to brush up on learned material. I'm learning how to build a website just for personal knowledge, not expecting the sole experience to land me a job with Google, but I'm sure it won't hurt my resume.

You are absolutely right, research is a "must" if you are embarking on signing up for any online school, and not all ".edu" websites guarantee accreditation.
