Where is the line between just normal baby spit-up and acid reflux???
8 week old Ethan has recently started spitting up after nearly every feeding- sometimes is is a small amount sometimes a large amount. He does not seem to be fussy afterwards. I have called the doc, but can't be seen for a week.
Any moms understand the difference between spit up and acid reflux?

My son had acid reflux. The difference is the way it looks. If it's acid reflux then it will be a mix of formula and clear mucous andusually is more than a teaspoonsul. That is gross toput it that way, but that was my experience. If it's spit up, it will be only milk and it should only be a teaspoonful or less. I hope this helps until you get to the doctor. Also, if they suspect acid reflux, you may be sent to an outpatient center for x-rays. Good luck!
My son had acid reflux. His pediatrician said that the difference is in how much he spits up, how often, and how fussy he is afterward. My son would not just spit up every time but it was actually almost projectile and he would be screaming for about 1/2 hour each time.
It is occasionally projectile... and is sometimes more than a oz
Not sure... Didn't really sniff it. well I guess my clothes kinda do smell like vomit.
lol it's going to smell like vomit regardless if it's sspit up or acid reflux. Acid reflux actually smells like stomach acid. It stinks. Spit up smells like soured formula.:D
nathan has acid reflux and his smells like vomit-especially if its been a while since hes eaten. (hes breastfed-so dunno about the sour smell as far as formula goes)
hes actually on medication to neutrilize (sp) his stomach acid because it was burning his osophagus (sp).
i hope it all works out for you and gets better...good luck.
There are other symptoms you need to look for. Most reflux babies will arch their back during feedings, they will comfort feed (cry lke their hungery and then play with the bottle), most will spit up about 25% of what they eat or have projectile vomiting. Most will scream after vomiting and want to eat again right after spitting up. They also tend to have the hiccups and coughing episodes frequently. My son gets the hiccups everyday sometimes multiple times. If you think your baby might have reflux you can try keeping his head elevated at least 30 degrees even when sleeping and help him to sit upright for 30 mins after he eats. Try not to move him around to much after he eats. My son takes prevacid 15mg once a day. Its one of the meds that lowers the acid in the stomach. He still spits up like crazy but he thinks it funny now when your covered with his spit-up. Hope this helps.
