Is there any plus size moms to be out there that would like to share there concerns? This will be my second pregnancy being plus size. Of course I would like to be of normal size but I am not so I have to deal. I have a 13 month old baby girl and now I am in my 6th week of this pregnancy. Husband and I are very excited and are hoping for a boy but will be fine with whatever God blesses us with. His family does not have a grandson to keep the name going so they are pushing for a boy.
I had just started to loose weight when we found out I was pregers. I was so hoping to have lost some real weight before I went for round 2. I would actually like to have a chance to really look pregnant.
Well I am going to bump this topic. Now it is harder to find, and I don't know if I like it or not, it is just a little weird to me.
Well so far I haven't heard anything from the doctor yet. I am hoping that the results have come back today and not next week. I am trying not to worry but that is getting harder to do each day.
Well see you all later.
BabyTyce: Awww!! Congratulations BabyTyce!! :D I sooo want to have my baby on Halloween. (I'll be 39 weeks). I can't wait to hear the story.
Sarahbeth1899: No need to bump anymore. We've been stickied!
MsMommy: I'm sorry you're in so much pain! As for the shirt, don't let it get to you. Try it on after you deliver  It'll fit again. Give yourself time. If the baby is really causing a lot of pressure try leaning to side when you sit down. I'm pretty sure someone else can suggest something better. (I've been pretty fortunate with very little pain... so I don't know what remedies most woes.)
As for news about me.. I felt for sure a BH contraction today, which made my day 'cause I hadn't really felt any before! :D Come on baby!
Did anyone get a weight gain cap from their doctor???
I went to my 1st appointment on Tuesday, and got my first US. I go back in 2 weeks for another one, and then I get another one 2 weeks after that. (this doctor says I'll get them once a month after that) I was really annoyed to discover that I have gained 4 lbs, and the doctor told me I have to lose it quick. She has set a weight gain of 10-15lbs for me. NO MORE.
No soda (not even ginger ale) No bread or pasta (not even crackers....) and limited- NO refined sugars. I am dying from the morning sickness... I mean, I wake up in the middle of the night to puke or dry heave... I'm siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick. I'm up right now because of it. WHAT DO I DO? HOW DO I GET MY BODY UNDER CONTROL WITHOUT THE AID OF GINGER ALE AND CRACKERS?
I feel like death. Truly...
Has anyone else had this kind of a diagnosis?
I mean, I'm a big girl, don't get me wrong... I'm 5'10 250 lbs, and I don't want to gain lots more weight, but how do you stop the feeling like death when you can't eat to make it better?!
BTW, sorry i didn't post sooner... something had happened to my screen name, but its back now :)
MommyMeri: Your doctor should be focussing on nutrition not weight gain! What does your doctor expect you to eat while you are always throwing up?? Seriously get a second opinion from a doc that is 'size friendly'. I'm really lucky my midwife is more focused on my nutrition and exercise not my weight gain, as a plus size mum to be, the last thing you should be doing is dieting to lose weight cause you gained 5Lb more than the doctor wanted you to.
There's a really good article in the resource section here about medical staff being size friendly.
Seriously!!! MommyMeri that's crazy that they would want you to lose weight. Wth??? You have a little bundle in your tummy that's gaining weight, what are you supposed to do? Lose weight your whole pregnancy??? That can't be healthy. Psh. My first doc's office tried to give me a weight cap too. The NP was like, "you should only gain 15 lbs this whole pregnancy.. and since you've gained 6 lbs in the last month, that puts you already at 15 lbs." I was at 25 weeks I believe. Umm.. hello!! The baby is going to gain a couple of pounds in the 3rd trimeseter! I agree on Blackriven. Try to see if you can find another doc (or doc's office) that's more weight friendly. The new doc's office I'm at says as long as the baby is measuring fine, heart beats good, and my BP is good, no worries. I'm 5'7 and right now (since I've gained an additional 3 lbs in one week ) at 270.
Eat those crackers and drink that ginger ale!!!! then scoff at the doc when you have your beautiful bundle without any complications. :D If you have to stay with the same doc, keep us updated, and we'll keep you motivated so they can't get you down.
MommyMerri- my 1st doc tried to do the same thing to me. I started at 220 and am pregnant with twins, and she told me they could just live off of my "extra padding!" I quickly got a second opinion, and the doc I go to now was appalled by what she said. He said I'm supposed to gain 45 lbs with twins!
Please get a second opinion, I don't know what I would have done without crackers when I had morning sickness... that's like a form of torture to be told you can't have them!:) I hope you start to feel better soon!
WTH?!?! i weigh a LOT more than you do and at my last appt, my doc FLIPPED because i had lost 2 lb. my WIC lady is telling me that i should only gain 15-20 lb throughout the entire pregnancy. the doc told me that there is no good reason i should be losing weight. at my first appt, i had put on 5 lb then at this last one, i had lost 2 of those. the doc seriously flipped out. "brandi... you MUST eat. you MUST be putting on weight. i don't want to see this scale go down again!" so, yeah... DEFINITELY get a second opinion!!! and eat those damn crackers and drink that damn gingerale if you feel like you need to! and when the doc tries to get huffy at you, tell her to stick it up her damn nose!!! :D
Mommy Merri- I agree with everyone else find a new doctor. I am five feet tall and 0 inches. So very short. I weighed 244 when I got pregnant. He told me I would gain less with this one and that it would be fine, but he has never put a cap on it or made me feel bad about my weight. I am now at 33 weeks and I have gained 25 pounds. So I weigh 269. He is fine with that. In fact my last appointrment Monday I was 269, but the one before that I was 274. The only reason was becuase I always have my appointments first thing in the morning before I usually have a chance to eat much. The one where I was 274 was at 4pm and I had a huge lunch that day. So this Monday when it was back down to 269 which is actually the same weight I was at from 3 appointments ago he was not happy. He asked what I did that would make me loose 5 pounds. I explained about the different time of day and he double checked on his chart and agreed that it was ok then. Some doctors are alot more understanding of weight then others. When I got pregnant I asked my doctor about my weight and he said as long as BP stays good, and I don't get gestational diabetes, and baby is doing good then we should have nothing to worry about. I wish you lived here I would refer you to my doctor he really is the best. Not everyone is skinny and doctors should understand this.
i am so glad to see a "fluffy" prego's thread! i have been looking for several days for a plus sized pregnant women's group without any luck. i have recently found out i am pregnant (about 5 weeks) at 5'2 and 250lbs, which is the largest i have EVER been. i had torn the ligament in my foot this past june and i had to have surgery to repair it. i was in a cast for 7 weeks so all i could do is literally sit on the couch all day. i gained 20 pounds just from my inactiveness and depression. i was so set and determined to lose my weight too, and then that was when i found out i was pregnant. so i just feel so aweful, on top of everything else, that i weigh this much. i am a nurse so i know all the "bad" stuff that can happen as a plus sized pregnant woman. well i am going to just take it all in stride and try not to stress over it! thanks for listening to my venting.
aw! Well, welcome to our thread! :D Glad to have another lovely lady here that can relate. Feel free to vent any time. That's what we're here for. To try to ease the stress out of these stressful months... We all need it!

Welcome! It sounds like we both started our pregnancies at about the same size. I was 5 foot 0 inches and 244 pounds.
MommyMeri: My doctor told me at my first visit that she only wants me gaining 10lbs total but she said that she doesn't want me dieting...just eating healthy and exercising (just walking). I lost 14lbs and didn't gain any back until 20 weeks and she was getting worried because I hadn't gained any. I've gained back 10 of the 14lbs and I was worried at my last appointment that she'd be upset because I'd gained 4lbs in almost 3 weeks, but she was happy that I'd gained it. I started out at 267 and now I'm at 263 and I'm 5 foot 4 1/2 inches. I think its ridiculous that your doctor wants you to lose weight and I agree that you should look into finding a different doctor. Good luck and I hope things work out for you.
Thank you guys soooo much! I am really beginning to question this woman. I think she might be nuts. She actually called me today to tell me that I need to cut my thyroid medication in HALF. I got online today and looked at my test results, they are exactly where they are supposed to be! It took a long time to get a dosage that worked for me! When she told me to cut it in half i was appauled. I asked her, "Okay, so you want me to gain no more than 10-15lbs during this pregnancy, AND you want to cut my meds which sustain my life both physically and emotionally IN HALF, thus making the guidelines that you have set for me 3x harder than they would be.... You know, I really don't see this working out well. I am going to contact my primary care physician and endocrinologist before I do ANYTHING with my thyroid medication." she said that was fine and that she would be sure to fire off a "memo" to them about the "circumstances". I know good an well that my primary is going to laugh when she reads this "memo" and then call me with a new doctor for me to see. I'm pretty upset that this happened in the first place.
I explained also to my OB who was giving me the rundown of what can happen if I continue to "live an obese lifestyle" that Not only am I not unhealthy in the way that I eat, but I am very concious of what my life PRE THYROID CANCER @ 16 was like. YES, I was a size 10, but I was also eating diet pills and ephedrine to be there, and that it just so happens that at 5'10, with a shoulder measurement of 40 inches, I am NOT DESIGNED TO BE SMALL. Sure, now I am pretty overweight if we look at a chart, but in reality, I am simply built like an Amazon and like it or not THIS IS HOW I COME, and with the situation of having NO thyroid gland what-so-ever that perhaps she should reevaluate her diagnosis. She kept talking about diabetes, I kept reminding her that I am not diabetic and have been HYPOGLYCEMIC for several years now. Cutting back COMPLETELY on all the stuff I was directed to cut back on has driven my sugar down into the 60's and 70's and its making me sick ALL DAY and ALL NIGHT. She said "Its completely normal to be sick, eating carbs and drinking soda won't make it better. You have to do whats right for your baby."
With that, I hung up the phone, drove my ass to Chic-Fil-A and got a wrap a small fruit cup and ONE REGULAR NON DIET COCA COLA.
I'm pretty well over this diet stuff. It hurts, and I think being pregnant has enough pitfalls that I don't need another thing to bug me about myself. I know I shouldn't drink Coca Cola regularly, but it sure did make me feel better to do it today. The bubbles soothed my tummy, the chicken wrap kept it full and soothed and the fruit helped bring my sugar level to a far more acceptable 88.
Thought you should know :)
I'm not exactly plus sized but I'm not skinny either.. the most I've ever weighed is 190 and I'm 4 foot 11 inches. I'm 17 and pregnant with my first. I'm 22 weeks and I don't look pregnant at all, I just look fat. Yet people who have seen my stomach say they love my baby bump. I was 169 when I got pregnant and am now 174/175. I too was losing weight before I got pregnant.
