I read everyone's stories, but didn't comment on all of them.

I am in tears over the fact that SO many women are treated this way. That it's the "norm" and many women don't even think to question it.

The sad fact is, until people inside the medical community start to see the atrocity that medical birth is, it won't change. Midwifery is such a small percentage at this point in the US that it's look at as "hippy" and "out there" and not respected by many people.

It's sad to see that, even if some of these interventions were necessary (which I don't think hardly a single one mentioned in this thread thus far was necessary), the lack of respect just because we have something coming out our vaginas is so common.

I think most of the trauma we feel could have been reduced or eliminated if we were simply asked before our genitals were mutilated, reached into, and violated. If we were simply told "I need to do this because...." and respected when we said NO.

It's not about our education or lack thereof, it's about the fact that we are human beings and we should not be treated this way.

It's not okay for someone to hold you down on the street and cut your vagina up with scissors. Why is it okay for a doctor to do it? Just because they're in a position of authority? It's not okay! If I were held down by someone who wasn't a doctor and their arm was inserted into my vagina and reached fully up to the top of my uterus (which at the time was up under my ribs), I could get their ass put in jail for molestation. Because a doctor did it, it's okay though and I shouldn't complain.

I was told after posting a status on facebook regarding birth rape that this was a matter better left to private messages.

I disagree. I'm in a place where I can talk about it. I am not ashamed, I have no guilt. This happened to me and it happens to many women. If they don't know it can happen or how to prevent it, how will it ever end?

It's funny you say that! Afterwards i never had a follow up with my dr or my dr's nurse when they made the appointment. I made another one and they weren't "told" they had an appointment that day from me. WOW. Also, because of things beyond my control i had a hernia and i had to get that removed last week. My doctor now said it appeared right after i had my baby and if i would have had my 6 week appointment it would have got recognized then! UGH! At least i'm healthy now and my son is doing great!

I'm so f**king sick of seeing people trivialize and make jokes about things like this. It's disgusting.
