This is a little late, but OP isn't your MIL the same lady that gives your son Tylenol for no reason? To make him sleep or something?
My son had a slight rash on his p***s and butt yesterday, and I put it on his butt and p***s. It doesn't hurt anything. And if there is a rash there I think that it is ok to put it there, as long as it is not internal ya know..
If you don't like her watching your son, and she always does something wrong like putting giving him tyenol, and putting diaper rash cream on his p***s for no reason than maybe you should look for someone else to look after your child.

Quoting Ally Luvs Matthew:
I accidentally get diaper ointment on the head of my son's p***s sometimes b/c I'm clumsy/messy...and It's never bothered him. I imagine kids get diaper rashes all over their area, not just their little butts. So I'm guessing it's totally fine. :D
This is just a small, but I think meaningful, suggestion. Please don't refer to a boy's genitals as his "junk." Perhaps it's the way some young people are talking right now, but we as adults shouldn't reinforce this negative attitude toward the genitals. How we ever went from the "family jewels" to "junk" I'll never understand. A child will benefit the most from simple accurate terms like p***s, scrotum, testicles, and so on. A child's ability to communicate accurately and without inhibitions could save his life someday. Anything else, from "baby talk" to "junk" promotes shame and misunderstanding.
