So today I was at the grocery store.. and I started to get really really lightheaded... I tried to suck it up, but I couldn't. I told my SO that I was going to go outside and get fresh air.. I couldn't make it outside. I got by the bathrooms, and opened the door, and fell. On my butt.. not stomach. Completely blacked out (not passed out.. I just couldn't see.) After I sat down.. I could see again but was really lightheaded. I got cold water from the sink and splashed a ton of freezing cold water on my face. It kind of woke me up, but I still felt like crap. Well after that I went outside.. still didn't feel good... untill I got home and laid down. Any idea what it might have been.. or has this ever happened to any of you during pregnancy? please.. i just need answers.. whether its something i should bring up to my doc. or not... thanks in advance!
Quoting -Monica-: I've experience that several times.. **watching**
(My DR told me not to worry..< Dumbass)
it might just be your hormones from being pregnant.. i was told they can make you lightheaded.. so next time if you feel that way.. bring some water and a piece of candy ..see if that helps.. you might of had low blood suger if you didnt eat.. also try eating a small meal before you go someplace.
I got this a lot when I was about 6mo pregnant I wanna say? And I would feel better when sitting down with my head kinda between my knees & I would sit in front of a fan sipping water... The eventually found out that I had SVT (supraventricular tachycardia) and I ended up being OK =)
Just take it easy... and let your Dr. know all the symptoms that you feel at the time when it's happening.. One of my episodes happened in the Dr's office when I was sitting on the table! And he was like "woah... yeah your heart rate is 180 just sitting there" haha.. so.. hopefully your Dr can help you out as well!
yeah i had the same i had to quit my jobs. Mine was vertago. So i would have to either lay down and sleep it off or eat something. Sometimes it was as simple as not drinking enough water. Always carry some kinda of snack and keep water on hand u never know.
Thank you so much ladies. I guess you can just say, that I was terrified at the moment, I thought I was dying. Eeek. Maybe i'll wait it out.. and see if it happens again. I'll start carrying junk food and water in my purse. And if it happens again, i'll call the doctor. Thanks so much, again :)
Definitely mention it at your next appointment. I had a really MILD case of dizziness and lightheadedness. I would get it AFTER I ate (so I was pretty sure it wasn't GD) and I've had really good blood pressure my entire pregnancy (so I knew it wasn't PreE). Also, it would happen when I wasn't moving around.. like after I'd been sitting for about 10-15 minutes. Come to find out, I'm mildly anemic. Since I modified my diet to include more iron, it hasn't happened.
Yeah I'm anemic and I get that a lot too. I would ask your doc about taking some extra iron, because some women just get anemia while they're pregnant and then it goes away when they're done - all your good stuff is going to the baby and not you!
Im not anemic nor do i have a high blood pressure or anything ATM. But i get Lightheaded REALLY bad.. almost anytime i stand up/sit down from standing up.
i was actually just about to make a post about this..
the same thing happened to me a couple of days ago in victorias secret so i called my midwife and she told me if it kept happening to come in and see her luckily it didntbut i kept getting sick for a couple days after that and couldnt eat anything.. so i called her this morning and she's putting me on medicine so if the same thing happens to you and you get to where you cant eat make sure you let your doctor/midwife know so they can put you on medicine or make sure everything is alright.. you could be diabetic
Quoting [young mommy to be]:
yeah i freaked out.. my grandma was standing right there and when my whole body started spinning and my eyes rolled back in my head she told me to sit down cuz i was about to pass out so i did and just ended up blacking out.. but it's nothing to worry about unless its a recurring thing
I was having the same thing with this pregnancy. I asked my dr. and she said that I just have to have healthy snacks like granola bars, or fruit, and make sure to eat these little snacks between my meals.... She also considered my blood pressure and my iron levels, and since I've been following her advice, I haven't had a re-occurance.... But definitely see your Dr. about something like this because it could be caused by any number of reasons..... Some dangerous to you and baby.
Actually... the lightheadedness can be from 3 things:
1.) Your uterus may be pressing against the 2 major arteries near your spine(aorta and vena cava) when in a standing postion due to your insides being pushed around inside.
2.) You could have had a drop in your blood sugar- Hypoglycemia.. If you hadn't ate anything recently, you may have had a dip in your blood sugar which causes blacking out, nausea, and lightheadedness.. \ <or>
3.) You can have Hypotension- Low blood pressure.. If you get dizzy from lying on your back, or getting up from a sitting or squatting position. It's where the blood is basically pulled from your brain by gravity in any upwards motion of the body. Or the weight of the uterus can pinch the aorta and vena cava when lying flat on your back. which will leave you feeling dizzy. (even though you obviously weren't lying down.. I read others who had posted before me had this type of "lightheadedness" symptoms.)
You usually get dizzy spells and such starting in the second trimester (if you get them at all), but you can get them earlier than that. I am on the 5th day of my 17th week, and I have been getting the same "dizzy"feelings. I was visiting my in-laws with my husband and I was feeling fine, then all the sudden my equilibrium was off! I felt like I was standing kinda in an angle.. Like if you spin too hard on a merry-go- round and start to walk away afterward- it's usually like a drunk feeling.. It wasn't a pleasant experience.. I got in my car and turned the air conditioner on high cold and let it blow into my face and had my husband drive me home.. I have had that feeling a few times since then, but not as bad as that time. Just make sure you are able to rest when you feel like that..Keep snacks like crackers or something like that if incase it is a blood sugar thing. Bear in mind.. you can have blood sugar problems during pregnancy even if you don't have diabetes or have had this type of thing happen to you in the past. - I studied human anatomy in high school and I read ALOT of things to learn and know as much as I could before we decided to get pregnant. I just like to be informed and educated. :) I hope this may have helped you or anyone else in some way.
