How many days do you wait a fever out before taking LO to the dr?

DS2 is now on day 4. It’s been steady between 100-102 but responds to fever reducers and will drop to 99-ish. He’s miserable, though. Coughing, runny nose. He’s sleeping well (coughs at night but doesn’t wake), but is noticeably less active during the day. He just wants to lay around and snuggle. Hasn’t been eating much, but is drinking plenty and having lots of wet diapers. I just don’t want to take him in for them to tell me it’s viral and to push fluids and wait. Unknown

I’d call and explain everything and see if they would like to see him!

Whelp, I can say that it really does sound viral. It sounds like you’re doing everything you’re supposed to. A virus can definitely last several days. I hope he’s better soon!

Ugh. Hopefully they’re open Monday because that’s my only day off and I can’t count on DH to do anything. ShyUnknown

That’s what I’m thinking. DS1 just suddenly woke up in a bad coughing fit (hoarse, dry cough) to the point of vomiting. He now has a fever, aches, and cold chills as well. We all just got over the stomach bug not even a week ago and now this. Very Sad

Sounds like what my 6 yr old is just getting over & my 1 1/2 yr old has now.
My personal rule of thumb is after 3 days,  I take them in but I'll be the first to admit I'm an anxiety ridden mess when it comes to my kids being sick and tend to jump the gun.
I took my 6 yr old in after 3 days of fever & cold symptoms only to be told what I already knew - push fluids & lots of rest.
My 1 1/2 yr old woke up with a 101.1 fever and coughing. The insane part of my brain wants to take her in but I'm trying to reason with myself by realizing she clearly has the same virus her sister is getting over. We all too just got over the stomach bug during Christmas.

Ugh! I' ready for winter to be over already!

I'd take him as soon as the fevever came back after the medicine. My son was like that when he was small and he ended up having internal fever and they had to keep him at the hospital. It had something to do with his kidney thats why it woudnt go away completely.
