Ive have a hunch that my daughter has a peanut allergy. I plan on making an doctors appointment for Tuesday.

Last night i was at Texas Road house with my DD (age 5) and SO.  Well anyone who knows that place its covered in peanuts and peanut dust.

While entering the restaurant my daughter was perfectly fine. We sat down and she was touching the peanuts cracking the shells and SO told DD to try it. Well she didnt try it but put the peanut on her lip. In a matter of a few moments she had hives on her lips. She rubbed her eyes and broke out even worse in hives. She was congested, sneezing and all around miserable. She looked liked a raccoon with hives.  We ended our dinner early. I took her to the bathroom washed her hands and left. With in an hour of leaving the restaurant the hives went away. We got home gave her some benedryl and put her to bed.

I have no experiance with peanut allergies. No one in my or SOs family has them.

Does this sound like a peanut allergy

yes. and pretty severe considering she didnt eat the peanut. I'd definitely not be feeding her any nuts until you have a thorough allergist appointment .

Yeah it does. And no offense but if I had a suspicion that my child had a peanut allergy I probably wouldn't take them to a place where they are covering the ground.

Luckily she doesn't eat peanuts or any other type of nuts. And we dont have any plans on going there until we have a more definite answer.

Considering peanut allergies dont run on either side of the family. We had no reason to suspect anything. We dont have any plans on going there until I know for sure. She doesnt eat peanut butter  or any types of nuts in a normal day.

Last night was the first time she broke out in hives from anything.

Yikes. Yeah, it definitely sounds like she had a reaction. My daughter also has a peanut allergy, but she's not quite that sensitive. I would talk to your doctor about allergy testing. My daughter's pedi said they don't typically do it until age 3. I don't know how old your daughter is. I didn't notice in the OP. Until then, be very cautious of any restaurants that cook their food in peanut oil and avoid nuts altogether. Also, definitely talk to your doctor about an epi pen.

She's 5 and a half =]

I'm defiantly being more cautious at this point.

on a  side question she is starting school in about 2 weeks. Do I need a doctors note saying she's allergic to them or do I just tell them

I got the hunch after she broke out in hives. Its the only thing thats different than any other restaurant we go to.

I took her to the pediatrician today and they are sending us to a specialist to see whats going on. Just waiting the insurance to approve the referral
