I've never made my own but I heard it was pretty easy. And I'm sure soooo much better for you too. How do you go about it?

It is easy but takes time...3-4 hours. There are different ways to do it.....but I brought 1/2 a chicken in a stock pot of water to a low boil, scooped off the yucky foam that comes up, added a carrot, celery and onion plus herbs, salt, simmered for a couple hours, then strained it.

You can make it in the crock pot, too. Just add all the ingredients and cook on low for about 12 hours or so.

I've been making my own for years and it is so flavorful. I use a variation of Ina Garten's recipe. I will cool it and freeze it in 4 cup increments.

You guys are making me really want to try doing it! Thank you, Thinkaboutit for the recipe and thank you, Spidermansmommy for the crockpot version. I'm excited to try them both!
