DH hates the name i love! Harhamblin Due October 4; 3 kids; Clearfield, Utah 420 posts

This is our 5th and final baby. I don't know the gender yet but I really feel it's a boy. We have 3 girls and one boy, and except for our oldest daughter, all of them are named after my husbands family. If we have a boy, I want to name him Henry Boyd.

Henry after my grandmas dad ( so in a way, after My grandma)

And Boyd which is my grandpas first name and my dads middle name.

These three people are some of the most important people in my life and I would love my child to carry their names. Oh and my grandpa has like 13 grandchildren and like 25 great- grandchildren and none of them have been named after him yet.

DH hates the name Henry. Says it sounds like a nerdy name. And although he adores my grandpa,  he hates the name Boyd as a middle.  He also says it doesn't go well with our other kids'  names.  (Breanna, Sadee, Jax, and Harper)

Anyway, what would you mom's do?

Name him Henry Boyd. I'm sorry but if your other kids have his families names (I'm assuming he picked?) why should he get a say on this babies name?? Correct me if I'm wrong Unknown

I love Henry. I considered it for DS. It's thought of as a classy classic name here. I live in a very well-to-do area and there are many Henrys and no one thinks they're nerds. Shy

It's about compromise. Maybe use Henry Boyd as the middle names if he really doesn't like it. Did you not agree to use the names for your other children??

Ok, so you liked them? That's the difference IMO... I'd never agree to a name I didn't like and wouldnt expect my husband too either.

I couldn't use a name I disliked so I wouldn't make my husband do it. Family name or not.

Name him Henry Boyd.

He got to choose the names for the other kids, your turn and it's not as if it's just some trendy name you like, it has meaning and family ties just like his family names.

I resent my husband immensely because he picked a name that I didn't like and named our son. We aren't having anymore kids and I am still mad that I will never get to use the name I love. I wanted to change DS2s name when he was a month old and every month after but DH refused. Now I am still pissed because he's 13 months old and now DH is saying, "well we can't now, he knows his name."

It's pretty much the only thing we have really fought about and I don't know if my resentment will ever go away since we aren't having anymore kids and naming a pet the name I liked just seems like an insult to me.

Give it time to grow on him but stick to your guns.  If it's really that important to you and your other kids are all names for his family I think you should get the final say in this name to be honest.

I also love the name Henry Boyd!

My DS name is not my fav name at all but we named him after a wonderful man so I love it for that reason.  With my daughter her name is not my fav either but we compromised so I got to pick her middle name . I wish I had more of a say in both names but oh well lol

Yes I do love them.  We both picked out first names and used his family names as middles. Its not like he forced his family names on me at all, it just happened that way. My oldest is Breanna Marie. Marie after my grandma and sister.  Next is Sadee Rose. I figured it was DH's turn to use a family name.Rose was a grandma and his sister. Next came our son. Of course I wanted him named after DH. So we named him Jax Keith. Keith was my husbands grandpa and also his middle name. Our youngest daughter is Harper Dean. She was born right after DH's grandma died so we used her middle name, Dean. I wouldnt change any of them. I just wish DH would get on board cause its important to me. Lol. But you have a point. I wouldn't want him to hate the name forever
