Let me first say i am not really looking into either of these options, more curious than anything. and certainly not until im at least 39-40 weeks. (im only 37+3). i dont want to hurt my baby in any way, but ive done some research on castor oil and so far i havent really read anything horror-like besides diarrhea. I had.my own experience with pitocin and honestly im petrified to do it again if i go overdue because of all the issues of prolonging my labor but giving me stronger contractions and making my son go crazy in the womb. I guess my question is if YOU had to choose between TRYING to induce yourself with castor oil, or going to get induced with pitocin, which would you do or if youve done the castor oil, what was your experience?

i wouldnt do either. i wouldnt get induced until 45wks.
and i wouldnt do the castor oil, it causes baby to poop in utero which can be fatal.

I had a really good experience and birth when I was induced with pitocin so I would probably just choose that again. I've actually never heard of the castor oil!
Have you heard of or looked into the cervical tape as a method of being induced? It didn't work for me, but there was no harm in trying. I've heard others that it's worked for too.
ETA: I would never choose any method of induction unless medically necessary, I'd rather just wait it out!

Did castor oil with my first. Shit my brains out (and the CRAMPS, holy hell!!). Didn't induce labor. I went to 41 weeks with him and then was induced and ended up with a c-section.

Did castor oil with my fourth at the recommendation of my OB (which should have told me something right there) and same thing happened. Shit my brains out, didn't bring on labor, went to 41 weeks, had a repeat c-section.

Basically, castor oil isn't going to do anything unless your baby is ready to be born. Same with any other "natural" method of induction.

I personally wouldn't choose pitocin, either. I'd wait it out. But, that's just me. After having been through both and ending up with c-sections both times, I'd much rather just let baby come when he's ready.

Wait that long you may not have a healthy or live baby.

It's a good thing no one would let you go that long overdue.

I havent heard of that. My doctor only said hed do pitocin then break my water or break my water first. Both of those options didnt sound very inviting to me.

Having my membranes stripped is what made me go into labor. I was 37 weeks and the OB I seen that day was a quack. I was in labor for 3 days because they wouldn't help it along until I was 38 weeks. He was in the NICU for a week for immature lungs. So I would defiantly wait until your overdue like you said but then that might help you.
