Hi ladies. I have my appt today and am nervous as hell. It's so terrifying. Anyway, I think the doctor will be asking us about the screenings! Has anyone done them? It's just the blood test right? Anyone NOT done them and why? Thanks in advance!!

I didn't with my daughter mainly because some of them are known for false positives, and I didn't want to be in constant worry about something being wrong.

The NT scan?

i did it because it was an extra ultrasound. It's an ultrasound and blood work, btw. Mine came back all normal. The techs had a difficult time getting measurements because baby wouldn't lift it's head away from my uterus too much lol so I got two ultrasounds.. Which I loved lol.

The quad screen? I didn't do it. I didn't need anything else to worry about.

We don't get offered any screenings as far as i know, we do get blood tests. Personally i wouldn't turn down anything that's gonna check on my baby unless it was invasive like the amniotic fluid tests n all that.. Good luck :)

I didn't do them with any of my children because of the false positives. My sister did the screenings with both of her kids and got false positives both times.

I only did it with this baby, because I wanted the extra sono, but usually i opt out. They can cause some serious stress if you get a false positive, and it's pretty common to happen. My sister in law almost terminated over a false positive,  so glad she didn't because I love the heck out of my very healthy nephew!

Quoting Phallus Cranium:

You cannot terminate unless you have a DIAGNOSTIC test that shows and confirms if a fetus is positive for genetic or NT issues.

CVS or Amnio

You can def terminate where I live. Not that I ever would. But yes you can over here.

We did the blood tests with my first, eveything came back negative with like a 1 in 20,000 chance.

We opted out this time just because so many times they come back with false positives and I didn't want the additional stress, specially with my husband deployed.

So far we havent had any need for concern.

Quoting Phallus Cranium:

Yes, but you can't terminate based off of the screening alone is my point.

It needs to be confirmed with a DIASGNOSTIC (i.e. CVS or amnio) before any physician would entertain the idea of terminating the pregnancy based on first trimester screening alone.

Oh yes of course, gotcha.

I did the NT scan and blood work. Our insurance covered it  both times and I like to be prepared and I like the ultrasound :)
