Second Opinion? BrookynRudy 1 child; United States 132 posts

I just had my gender ultrasound yesterday at 20 weeks. The lady said it was a girl but didn't sound so sure. She never showed me or my partner where the parts are to let us know wither or not there was a p***s or not. I don't feel like I'm completely sure its a girl. I want to know before I make big purchases and plan my baby shower. Should I go and get a second opinion and did everyone have the same experience or are they suppose to show you and not just say

You can't tell based on that picture. We need a shot of the crotch. For girl you're looking for 3 distinct lines

I've never heard of them not showing you the parts when they tell you what it is..i was shown at my gender, anatomy and the last two 3D ultrasounds I had that she still had girl parts, find it odd she didn't show you.

This--usually they'll type boy or girl on the U/S with an arrow.

The lady wouldn't let me see cause I had to lay down and couldn't see the screen and I know the picture you cant tell but she never even tried to show us. I'm guessing because the baby was moving to much and I really do hate having to pay for a second ultrasound because she didn't do something she should have.

If you want to know for sure then pay for a second ultrasound to find out. Why didnt you ask to see?

She probably didn't ask because when wanting to find gender out its part of the anatomy scan to see not something you just skip.

Did you get a CD with pictures she took or just printed ones?

Its an anatomy scan not a gender scan so no it is not part of it. Whether the baby has a p***s or not is irrelevant for what they are doing for the scan.

I know what the anatomy scan is for  BUT   almost every doctor/nurse/ ultrasound tech informs you at the time of your anatomy scan between 18-20weeks you can also find gender out if you would like to know....sooo if she wanted to find the gender out how is that irrelevant?

She did ask if I wanted to know so I assume she would of showed the part to my partner since she said I had to just lay there and I couldn't see

I only got printed photos and this was my anatomy scan/gender ultrasound and if you ask then I feel like your obligated to show and not just seem like your guessing.

The tech was supposed to turn the monitor towards you so you can watch the scan.

Because they didnt HAVE to tell her the gender. So it is irrelevant.

You just know everything I forgot. You don't ask someone if they want to know the gender and than tell them without showing them boy or girl parts...at the anatomy scan its an option to find gender out and every pregnant woman knows that reasoning on why we get so excited when 20 weeks rolls around. Yeah gender isn't part of the measurements and everything but its always been you can find gender out when you have an anatomy scan so you trying to argue if its irrelevant or not is stupid.

Quoting ♥MamaToSilas♥:

And you trying to argue that it is a MUST for an anatomy scan is stupid because it isnt. No tech has to tell you the gender. Its not required for an anatomy scan. Yes they can tell you and show you if they want to do so but they dont HAVE to like you all seem to think they do. There are hospitals around here that only do one scan and do not tell you the gender. You have to pay out of pocket for that because it is NOT part of the anatomy scan. So again quit arguing an invalid point.

My doctor always told me it was my anatomy scan and my gender ultrasound she never said it was separate. If that was the case then she shouldn't have asked if its not required is how I feel but If she wasn't she should could have said instead of telling me something and I go and plan for a girl and I have a boy  I don't think its right for me to invest my money because she didn't take the time to actually be right.

No ultrasound can tell you 100% girl or boy. It is all an educated guess until baby is born. They give you the option of finding out the gender at the anatomy scan. But if is not a gender scan. My daughter crossed her legs so they couldn't even tell us. But because it's not an important diagnostic part of the scan I didn't get another one. Where as had they not got a good shot of the spine they would reschedule another scan. Finding out is a bonus for the parents. It is not required.
