My father in law really wants us to use his middle name for our baby. It's Gale, so for a girl we'd use Gail. I don't personally like it, but he keeps talking about it. I thought he was just joking at first, but I think he's serious. My husband has been looking at names and came up with EmmaGail. I wanted to use my middle name for the babys middle name so we wanted a double first name. Does it sound ok? Do you have any other suggestions on Gail for a part of a first name and not Abigail. My middle name is Bernice. Also how should it be spelt...

It's up to you obviously,  but IMO it sounds funky, and you shouldn't be obligated to name her after anyone, just because you feel guilty.. It's your baby, you call the shots!

I don't like that double first name.  Nobody should expect you to name their child after them!  Name your child a name you want and like.

Actually I think it's super cute and original, but I have to admit it's your baby so don't let him talk you into something you don't really care for.  I wouldn't want to tell my lil girl that her grandfather made them feel obligated and that you didn't really care for her name. ;) lol   Hey and you're from Fort Drum!!!  I'm from around that area! Used to he closer but now I moved to Cooperstown area when I met my now husband, my family is from Gouverneur which is about 30 minutes north on hwy 11. Is your husband in the army?

Yeah I'm not sure if I will end up using it. I've gotten along with my in laws really well. I talk to my mother in law almost every day. I don't want to do anything and piss them off, but I also don't want to not like my daughters name. I figured if I used EmmaGail I'd probably just call her Emma.

Yeah he's in the Army. We've been up here for 5 years, but will be moving in a couple months.

I love double names, I have an aunt named Mari Claire and I love it. However I hate when people combine the two. Maybe its just living in the south I see double names used all the time with no confusion. I would just use Emma Gail or Emma-Gail. I think Emmagail is tacky looking.

I don't like it at all.
Don't let anyone pressure you into using a name you don't like. I think it's odd that he's like, "you need to name your child after me" wtf
But if you really want to use it, I'd use it as a middle name. You could spell it "Gayle" to make it less masculine.

I use to love snow, but I think living up here kinda ruined that. But it is nice up here. I'm just ready to move so I can be closer to home.

It's not the weather I miss it's my family and just where I grew up is what I miss more then anything.   Where r u from?

I would not use it as a first name....it Is really unattractive sounding.  Put it as a middle name if you must.

I agree. Why not go a double middle name instead? There are some double first names that work, Emma-Gail is not one IMO.
