Castor Oil - or no? ♥ Peenky ♥ Due March 21; 2 kids; California 58 posts

Well I'm 38.6 days weeks pregnant. I'm so close to the end, yet soooooo far. I'm feeling fluffy, tired, sick, and lack of better words... I'm over it!- Baby has baked, and I'm ready to push!
Doctor has offered to induce with Pitocin, but no thanks! I'm okay with drugs, unless completely needed...
BUT I hear that a shot of Castor oil and orange juice can do the trick... I don't mind positive opinions... yes or no?
Anyone else done it?
Does it make you have the Hershey's?

Castor oil will just give you the shits. The best thing is to wait it out, however to help the process you can do some walking or have sex.

The night before I went into labor DH and I walked to a mexican place to eat, walked back, then had sex. I was in labor the next morning.

I still can't figure out how the hell I walked that far while being 39 weeks pregnant.

Not when you're 38-39 weeks. You shouldn't try any method of induction unless you're overdue. Hell, inductions shouldn't happen until 42 weeks unless you have a valid medical reason.

There haven't been any conclusive studies that it passes through the placenta. The hearsay started because most women who take castor oil are already overdue, and everyone knows the chance of the baby passing meconium is already high when you're overdue whether or not you ingest castor oil. :)

  • You're not even to your due date yet.....I understand being over it. I went 41w1d with DD. But you've still got like a week and a half. Baby will come when baby and your body are ready. Taking castor oil is just going to give you the runs and possibly cause severe dehydration as well. In the off chance it does put you into labor just imagine having the runs while trying to push your lil bundle of joy into the world....

You should just wait a while....there is plenty of time for your body and baby to decide they are ready. If you are dead set on going into labor try things like taking the steps two at a time, walking and sex but do not try castor oil.

That's what I'm worried about too! last thing I want is to have the squirts while I'm pushing out the baby... that would be even worse! Gross.. and who knows who I'll spray!   ( I know totally gross - whatever it's real)            I'm reading other "natural" ways to help me induce...

don't do it. There are WAY too many risks with castor oil. It should oonly be done under the supervision of a doctor or midwife, AFTER you understand the dangers.

No to the caster oil. It's something that isn't advised by any medical practitioner here, or at least none that I've ever spoken to or heard of.

Babies will come whenever they are ready and I strongly believe all these old wives tales of long walks, having sex, spicy food, pineapple....etc are just silly. Babies will be born when they are ready of course I agree if you are over and it's in the babies best interest to be born by the mother being induced to kick start things

Castor oil can not only cause the runs but also make contractions more intense by adding in diarrhea cramps. There is walking fast paced, sex, n****e stimulation, masterbation, bouncing on an exercise ball, and the good ol fashioned waiting until your baby and body are ready.
