I'm starting to think any outcome will be awful. Us getting involved is not a good thing, us not doing anything about it enables it, and others striking in our name is terrible too. I think the world will reek the punishment of whoever decided that chemical warfare was the way to go.

The bad guys have been emboldened by this president. They view him as weak, and of course means that they view our country as weakened. They mock him. This is just one more example and a very bold example.
I could never go along with striking because he was warned when we have no idea who we are empowering OR a plan for what to do if he just does it again on a more grand scale.
Had we attacked mo ths ago, I'd feel differently.
Are you saying Obama set off those chemical weapons to make people stop thinking bout the budget?
Quoting TG3:" Are you saying Obama set off those chemical weapons to make people stop thinking bout the budget?"
oh NO. Not at all.
I think he has made more of the issue to cloud the disaster that we currently have as well as the disaters that are looming.

Eh my control has just elected in a homophobic sexist who thinks women shouldn't be in the work place ... especially not high paying jobs. So any distraction right now would be nice.
Honestly, I've wondered. Syria is a very real issue, but if Obama wanted to make a decision and have the support of Congress, why didn't he come home and recall them all to get a vote in? As it is now, they've been, well, exposed to all the negative responses from their constituents/media/whomever, and I think getting a vote to swing in his favor would be difficult.
I get wanting to be careful, and go in with support, but I don't believe it was handled the right way if that's what he wanted.
I dated an international studies major once who told me that the government relied on the media to hyper-focus on one big story while there were other things happening. So... Is this a distraction from the economy? From Egypt or Libya or Afghanistan? Or is this really the big issue, and because of the way media has developed thanks to the Internet, we are really getting to see what's going on (pictures, videos, testimony). It's interesting to think about.
Not really, but I do think there is some seriously shady business going on (more shady than usual, I should say). I think something is going on with Syria that we are being left in the dark about. I think it's possible that we've been threatened and/or a plan was revealed to release chemical weapons on US soil, and that's why Obama is so gung-ho on leading a military strike. I'm terrified of a war with Syria because Putin said he would help them... and if we're going to go to war with Russia we might as well all retreat to bunkers now.

They hand it out all the time, in Medicaid, in schools, to other countries. But I'm talking about unemployment and welfare...
I definitely think it is. Every time there are serious issues with this administration, they refocus the attention to some huge issue. Everyone is calling for a much more in-depth probe into Benghazi, noticing obamacare isn't such a great deal, seeing blatant corruption in several government agencies, so Obama had to give people some other place to focus on. They'll keep doing it as long as people keep falling for it.
Hmm I thought all this crap with Miley was a distraction from Syria. But I guess you could look at it that way as well, that getting involved is taking the focus away from a possible collapse.
