DS is 2 weeks old. Last night I woke up to change and feed him and my b**b was in horrible pain. I took off my bra, it wasn't a nursing bra just a regular underwire. The pain got worse and I fed him from the other side. It kept hurting more and more, until I was in tears. I put him back to bed and went and took the hottest shower I could handle and expressed milk in the shower. The whole bottom of my tit was swollen and felt like Bruce Lee punched me in it. Later I nursed him from that side which provided some relief. It's bearable now but still tender.

WHY????

The lc at the hospital told me not to wear a bra with underwire because it can cause plugged milk ducts. To take care of those she said hot compress before nursing, massage the area while nursing and cool compress after nursing.

Thank you! I thought that's what it might be. I better pick up some nursing bras. :(

Mastitis will also make you feel sick. Like the flu. You sound like you are just engorged and wearing an underwire to bed is not a good idea! I use sports bras. I wear underwires when I go out but mostly because I have huge tits so it's hard to find a good bra without them. Just keep nursing off both breasts and expressing when the pain gets bad.
