If you've had it done what are the pros/cons?
What about risks?
How many cm dilated were you?
Would you rather that than be induced using cervidil/pit?
I have an appointment Friday and will be setting up an induction date if I haven't delivered yet. Due to my history, they don't want me to go past 41ish weeks, and I agree.
I had mine striped at 38 weeks. I was already at 4 cm. It did not hurt just the pressure of her hands. I spotted for a few hrs but it did not help me at all. I was induced at 39 weeks because of my BP.
I had my membranes unexpectedly stripped without any warning or permission at 39w2d I was 3cm. My water broke 6 days later.

i never got it done with my first.
with my second my doctor did it on my due date. the only con is that the actual stripping feels a tad bit uncomfortable.
i was 1cm dilated when she did it.
she did it around 3PM on feb 14th. i didnt have a single contraction prior to that. only a few uncomfortable braxton hicks along the way.
after that i went on a walk with my mother and got a few contractions. nothing painful. in the middle of the night i started going into labor. had my son within 2 hours.
now like i said i didnt get my membranes stripped with my daughter. i went into labor with her at 6 days overdue on my own, but things didnt go fast enough in my doctors opinion so they pushed pitocin.
i didnt get pain meds or epi or anything with either of my kids and pitocin is terrible.
i wasnt allowed to get up and walk to speed things up. i wasnt even allowed to use the bathroom.
with my son i walked up until 4 mins before he was born which i believe is the reason he came so fast.
if i have another i am definitely going for the stripping of my membranes. was like someone pushed a magical button for me.
I also had mine done without warning or permission. I thought it was just a normal check and then nearly hit the ceiling it hurt so much. I was already in labour at the time but it did help a bit. I went from a 1 to a 3 straight away. I did bleed a bit after it too, not a lot though.
I had mine done at 40 +1 i was already 4 cms.i had a lot of cramping and some bleeding that evening and went in to labour the next evening.it wasnt painfully just a little uncomfortable.
i had it done on my 4th as well at 39 weeks but still went 13 days over due.
i was induced with my first and would opt for stripped membranes any day. the contractions were so intense it was unbelievable.
Had mine stripped at 39 weeks I know she did it correctly because it hurt so bad to the point that I was asked again at 40 weeks and 41 weeks that I declined. It did nothing for me and was not worth the pain.
