Mirena? ~*~Modern*Day*Delilah~*~ 17 kids; Connecticut 15826 posts

Hey everyone :)

My mirena expiration date is coming up in April of 2014. I will either need to get a new one put in, or get something different. I haven't really had any issues with the Mirena, my only problem has been minor hair loss (losing more hairs per day than normal). I haven't had a period since 2008- which kicks ass by the way lol. SO I'm not sure if I should keep it, or if I should get a different type of birth control? I'm air headed and I WON'T remember to take a pill- if I relied on a pill, I'd end up pregnant in a month. SO I need either the Mirena, a different IUD or something else that I can get/put in and forget about.

I've been seeing a lot of stories about mirena causing infertility...and I want more children one day- so obviously, this concerns me.

If you have the mirena, did things change when you got the first removed and had a new one put in? What other types of birth control are good for women who are forgetful, like myself? Which birth control causes the least side effects., etc?

Thank you!

I only had mine for 6 months but I had horrible cysts the entire time, then when I went to get it taken out I found out that I was already pregnant on it but there were serious complications so I lost the baby. I also know of 2 people who cant have children any more because of it. That being said I know tons of people who have conceived after getting it out just fine. I would say if you haven't had any complications with it after almost 5 years I'd just get another one in, seems to be working for you :) Good luck with your decision momma! I had the Mirena only a few months and hated it, got it taken out. My sister on the other hand, had it almost 5 years, had it taken out when she got married, conceived shortly after and has a healthy baby boy now :) I have heard the infertility thing before but I *think* Drs will advise against TTC until 6+ months after getting it taken out.

If that was all the issues you had with the Mirena I would definitely get that one again.
