Quoting Cat Abbott:" What Nocturnal said. Depends on how you handle it. I used to smoke pot every day, and I would have confidently ... [snip!] ... opiates. This Motherisk article summarizes what is known about breastfeeding and marijuana use (not all that much)."
so say someone like me who has never even smoke tobacco before or had anything strong than a vodka and cranberry every now and then. If I decided to start marijana while breastfeeding (either medicinal or recreational) it probably wouldn't be as safe as someone who has been smoking it for 20 years?

Safe, as in likelihood of dropping the child or making a bad decision resulting in harm, no. But from the standpoint of concentration of THC in breastmilk, a new user's milk is safer. Because THC is fat soluble (stored in fatty tissues), long-term use will result in a higher concentration of the drug in breastmilk.
Quoting Red Bottom:" It has way more carcinogens than tobacco, so while you're not catching cancer instantly, you're seriously increasing your chances. Is that worth it?"
I hope your not insinuating that pot causes cancer because people have used it as treatment and it's cured them...
smoking while pregnant is questionable. i dont see how having a single hoot once in a while could hurt, so long as your not sitting there smoking every day.
And I'm just going to throw this out there:
I didn't find out i was pregnant until i was already 8 weeks and 5 days along and I was smoking at least two joints and i bowl before i knew and have been cutting back slowly to avoid a shock to my system at the suggestion of my doctor. and my baby is perfectly healthy thus far...
<blockquote><b>Quoting TG3:</b>" I didn't really mean the percentage in breastmilk but is there a risk of carrying/holding an infant while on weed? Is it the same as alcohol or safer?"</blockquote>
It is much safer depending on the user. When I smoked daily, it did not affect my ability to safely care for an infant. My SO smokes daily and I completely trust him to safely handle our newborn when she's born. I have not smoked in about 9 minths so I would not feel safe handling my baby while high at this point. I would never trust myself to do anything safely after drinking. I rarely drink so even a few glasses of wine is too much for me to function.
