What do you all think?
Does someones level of fitness have any roll in whether or not they should be/ are approved for food stamps?

That seems horribly stupid. What does a persons level of fitness have to do with anything? Really, it seems insulting. As if all poor people are expected to be fat and lazy. How dare they take care of themselves!

Hell, isn't this the whole reason people want to restrict what others can buy with food stamps? So they take care of themselves and buy good food? But then, when they DO and are fit, we decide it's fraud?

I really don't get why a persons fitness has anything to do with their ability to get food stamps.

What the hell is this guy even talking about? It's fraud because these people aren't fat?

Don't you know that all poor people need to be fat, lazy, unattractive people? If they aren't, they MUST not really be poor.

That seems kind of wack lol Out here the Y has programs that you can get discounted family memberships if you receive foodstamps lol A few years back I paid 20 something a month for me SO and two kids to belong to the Y.

I am not sure what in the world he was talking about. Unless he was saying that they had a gym membership and still using a FS card? Either way, ridiculous. This man was elected?

And calling it "that card" bothers me. As if they are inferior to him for using it. I understand there is A LOT of fraud in the FS system. But someone being fit doesn't scream fraud to me. lol

Maybe he's implying that if two people can put that much time and energy into staying that fit (and from his description they probably spend 2 hrs a day in the gym and are active when at home), they should be able to put more effort in to helping themselves thrive financially verse needing government assistance. That's the way I took it. With that said, who knows if they just got fired or something and are only using it for a short time till they get back on their feet. Maybe they owned a gym and it went bankrupt.

So he thinks that FS recipients are suppose to be fat and/or lazy? What a moron. He should be kind of happy to see that I mean at least they would be buying healthy stuff in order to maintain their fit bodies. They could also have a home gym that they purchased prior to needing assistance.

I know, right? I'm just, what, the, just.... WHAT THE f**king with this? Seriously... just what?

I am not really "fit" but ya know... I'm small. Lily is really in shape. My Mom has a lot of health issue and is overweight but we are all on food stamps. But I eat pretty damn well. I weigh 130 and if I got my health issues under control I bet I would weigh 115, maybe even less. If I toned up and produced muscle I'd weigh more of course, but around 115 is a good weight for me if I'm not being muscle conscious, and 130 is a good weight when I have muscle on me. I weighed around 130-145 in high school but I had a lot of muscle on me from JROTC and band and lost it all from my pregnancy, lol. I was a damn powerhouse and wish I had it all back, but technically those damn body mass index things (such bullshit things to go by) says that weight is overweight for my height and it is so NOT.

Anyways, I am on food stamps and eat pretty damn well. Same as my child. Our whole family does. Of course we have our snacks but I dont allow my child to eat shit all day. She has NEVER been underweight and even had a fucked up doctor ask if I ever f**king fed her. Stupid wh**e doctor. You can be fit and be on food stamps. You can value being fit and be on food stamps. My Mom still cooks healthier.... we still have our more fatty meals but its not like we just sit on our butts just because we are poor.

A lot of people think that those on food stamps only eat lard ladden meals and dont value fitness or eating healthy and its not true. Sometimes it IS true that one on food stamps is forced to eat the more boxed meals and eat the more "on the go" type meals because of the family dynamics but its not always true. Its also a shame that the food industry makes those kinds of meals cheaper and more accessible for them but with more education for the parents and the kids I think we can change the way families eat.
