I have 6 smart phones sharing 6 gigs of data.
Recently one of the people on my plan (the only one thats not family...) has been EATING through the data. This month and last shes used 4gigs of data and then tried to tell me it was my ipad eating it all up, im assuming she doesnt know I can view how much she uses every month.
So I had to up our data this month to 8gigs. Not a big deal its only $10 more, but we all split the bill and that extra $10 ill have to pay because she already said she couldnt afford more. But with her eating up over half I dont think its fair that I foot the bill and then we have a full week where none of us can use the data (we have less then a gig left now, even after I upped the data)
How would you approach this with her? She is a good friend and I would hate to see this come between us, but she is super sensitive about this stuff.
I'd honestly remove her from the plan and take down the data LOL.
Show her the bill and ask her to either pay her share or slow down her usage. That's why friends shouldn't be on "family" plans... shit gets messy.
Well, if she's a good friend (and a mature adult) she's not going to let this come between you two and she will stop using so much data when you show her that it is in fact her the one that's eating it all up.
I'm very direct and straight to the point lol.
Show her the phone bill, that states it's her number using the data. I'd give her the option to either cut back or have to pay it all, or even get her own phone plan.
Quoting Noahs Mommy =]:" I have 6 smart phones sharing 6 gigs of data. Recently one of the people on my plan (the only one ... [snip!] ... this with her? She is a good friend and I would hate to see this come between us, but she is super sensitive about this stuff. "
Do you just not want her on the plan anymore? Or do you just want her to use less data?
Is there a way where you can secretly parental control her phone? Where it doesnt let her use internet past a certain point?
Can you block the amount of data her phone uses? Or just get charged more if you go over?? Either way, I would definitely tell her you're able to view the amount each phone is using.
I know nothing about smart phones or data plans.
I know exactly how you feel! We put our roommate on ours, and he and his girlfriend have been eating through the data (even though she has MORE for herself then the 3 of us put together). I am just glad we finally have internet and he can connect to wifi.
There is a setting on my phone that gives me the option to shut off data usage after I have reached whatever threshold I set--maybe ask her if he has something like that on her phone? She shouldn't be using data if she can't pay for it.
I would show her the bill and let her know you can see exactly how much she is using. If she isn't able to afford to pay for the additional data then she needs to restrict herself. Let her know that you understand she may not have the money or whatever but she needs to make more of an effort to stay on wifi and limit her usage when she isn't on wifi.
