IMO you're going to WANT your mom to bathe LO, or at least help. I know I did. I had panic attacks for about a week giving her a bathe before I really got the hang of it. GL figuring out how to flip 'em over to wash their backs!! lol
I wouldn't fuss a big deal, why don't you invite her to help you do the first bath? This way you are both doing it, no one gets hurt feelings. My MIL did my daughter's first bath and I didn't care but with my son I wanted to be the first so I did and no one got hurt over it. Your mom will throw a fit and make you feel guilty but don't we all when we don't get our way? She WILL get over it but still maybe compromise with her? What does she mean, don't you know babies are slippery? lol that is funny
She's not going to get any less slippery with her second or third bath. My only 'worry' was letting the umbilical cord get too wet. It's not as scary as it seems!

DS was a preemie and had trouble keeping his body temp up still when we brought him home, sponge baths weren't practical.

Did no harm :)
The cord fell off in the allotted time frame and no infections either.

DD's fell off in 3 days but she's still kickin 3 months later
She's gotten waaay squirmier than when she was a newb but she's a fatty now and takes up almost the whole infant bath, so there's no going anywhere lmao.
Quoting CokiMonsta:" My hospital states that it allows both parents to bathe the baby first, but I'm really referring to the ... [snip!] ... it first. It's going to be very strange trying to balance boyfriend and my mom out together @___@ I can foresee many issues."
Unless you pay a fair share amount in rent and have your own private area of your mothers house(like a basement or garage apt) ......there are no boundaries to be overstepped :( More than likely your mother will do as she pleases.
We cobathe so I never had that issue lol my mom didnt wanna see my nakedness in the tub lol

I let my mom give the first bath to my oldest when we first came home mostly because I was scared shitless- babies ARE slippery! Lol... I saw how much she enjoyed it and loved it that she felt she was teaching me how to be a mother and care for a baby that the second time around I asked her to do it again and she jumped at the opportunity.
I personally feel it is more memorable to have my mom do it than me ad I will be doing it for years to come.
