For the whole pregnancy, we've planned to use the convertible baby seat we already had for DS1. It's only a few months old. We got it brand new after a car accident and were too paranoid to use our old one again. He used it for about 6 months but have since upgraded to a larger seat that he'll be able to use until he's 8. Our problem is that since DS1 was bigger when we got it, we took the extra padded insert out (it's only for use while rear facing and up to a certain weight) and now since we moved house, we can't find it anywhere!
I was wondering if getting something like this would be alright as an alternative?
This is the seat we have:
nope the only safe extra paddin for a car seat in the ones from the manufacturs. or the one that come with the car seat. call the manufacturer and see if they can send you one that is made for that care seat
The one you posted is mainly just a head support to stop their tiny heads flopping to one side.
I used to work in that department at babies r us, and yes, those are the best replacement for what youre missing. they ARE made by the manufacturer, its Graco, and the exact same insert that is sold WITH the carseat. other brands make them, its safest to go with the same brand as your carseat. Babies R Us also makes its own version of both the seat and insert, so if your seat is BRU go with the BRU insert, if its Graco get Graco, etc...
Don't buy anything aftermarket. I'd suggest calling the manufacturer and request them to send you a new infant insert. They may do it for free, if not, it would probably cost no more than an aftermarket one, but baby would be soooo much safer.
just so everyone knows... if you have a brand like graco or babies r us.... the "after market" inserts are EXACTLY THE SAME as the ones that come with them! they literally make them all on the EXACT SAME production line! the only difference is the colors... however, if the seat itself is a brand that does not carry or make their OWN after market product, it is safest to call and see what they recommend... however, if theyre the same brand there is literally NO DIFFERENCE! unless you work for the company or work with carseats daily, trust this one.... I've spent hours on the phone researching this exact question and others from a variety of brands, for customers at my store, so save yourself the long obnoxious phone call if you don't need to make it!

You're stupid. Doesn't matter if it's the same assembly line it's not tested with that specific seat. And that's bullshit that that is the same as what goes with any seat. Just looking at it you can tell it's nothing like what's come in my Graco seat.
I have a spare I insert. I can post to you :)
wow. you really had to throw insults in there??? i'm going off information I was given specifically by the company! if you've had a different experience, just say so, but its completely childish and unnecessary to add insults and name calling.... I feel horrible for your children, i'd hate for my kids to have a parent so full of hatred for other human beings... just because they say something you don't agree with.... my kids will never be allowed kids like yours. I don't need the hate rubbing off on them!

-slow claps- There you go. Standard jump to my children. Kudos. I didn't name call, I stated my opinion. I think you're stupid. I could have said lots of other stuff. And for your information, my kids are just fine nor is my house full of hate because I said someone's stupid lol... Cry baby.
Oh and it's for the exact same carseat. Problem solved so no need to say anyone is stupid....

I was referring to her saying that aftermarket products are fine and safe. It says right in the manual from the manufacturer, that she is claiming told her it's okay, that you're not to use ANYTHING that didn't come in the box originally with the seat. So yours would be fine, however an aftermarket product isn't. If she wants to share information "from the manufacturer, because I worked for Babies R Us" she should do so accurately. Someday the life of someone's child could depend on what she says.
Like it's already been suggested, call the manufacturer. It is definitely NOT ok to use aftermarket inserts [regardless what others are saying in here].
However, a simple solution is to roll receiving blankets and place them on either side of the baby like this...just make sure they are not under or between the baby/straps/seat!

Oh really?! That'd be great!

Pm me your address. Ill post next week when I'm of work for the day. It's for the same carseat but the 2009 model, but there surely would be hardly any difference in the insert :). I was about to chuck it out lol
