a life long friend of mine is having his home sold under a Sheriff Sale, and he just found out that even if the house sells for $100,000, he won't have any of that money left for himself since his mother was in such debt.
His mom just killed herself almost a year ago next month, his dad died when we were about 8. He's 21 and soon to be homeless.
I feel so helpless for him. We have no room for him, and he has no where to go and live right now.
He's trying to have a yard sale to get some extra cash this saturday, and I'm trying to help him as much as I can.
Does anyone know if there are places we can take furniture if it's in decent condition to be sold ?? or appliances?
Anything I can do to help him? I'm so lost.
Check for consignment stores. It could take awhile to sell, though. He may be better off trying to sell it on craigslist.
That's so sad. Has he looked into TANF?

He doesn't have time :( We have until the end of this month to help him.
I mean, part of him doesn't want to live in the house and save it because they both committed suicide in that home. And part of him does because he has no where else to go.
I've told him to apply for it, but he hasn't yet. He would most def. get it if he did! The poor kid will be 21 and homeless. His family tuned on him after his mom died and won't take him in.
SO is trying to get him a 2nd job at his factory, but we're running out of time.
BOTH parents committed suicide--in the same house?:(:? If worse comes to worse, he could go to a shelter. That's pretty shitty about his family. It isn't his fault.

I know :( And I feel like such a shitty friend because we can't house him. I told him if he needs a couch, he has ours, but we physically and financially cannot support him for a long period of time - ya know?
And we talked to SO's dad about it, since he owns the building and he said no to him moving in, but he can stay a few nights if he needs it.
I wish we had our own home, I would let him live with us.
ugh. And the ONLY buyer wants to pay $93,000 for the house. And he needs at least $100,000
