I smeared some mustard on my sons tongue when he was about 4 for calling me a c**t. He never did it again.
It's not something I'd do a lot, that's the one and only time I did it. I'm not putting up with that language from a 4 year old.
And no I don't think it's 'ok' but its not abuse and I knew it wouldn't kill him. I dont think its enough grounds to get child services Involved either.

My step siblings had this done to them when they were little.... there step mom(not my parents, their bio-dad's wife) had given my sister hotsauce, if she wouldnt eat her food...at under 2yrs old...that i seem kinda eff'd up...but i guess it depends on the age of them...i wouldnt ever do it...but i could understand if someone did...my 2.5year old understands which words are bad words...

I don't think the type of hot sauce matters much...everyone has a different tolerance level for hot things, and for a little kid who doesnt typically eat things like that its probably super f**king hot. I think its extremely fucked up...I'm not sure about abuse.

Physical punishment is never okay.

If your kid is swearing you should probably watch your own mouth better or keep a better eye on the TV that they watch or peers that they see.

Tobasco burns the shit outta my mouth and I'm 23 I wouldn't ever put it on my 3 year olds tongue.

Idk.. the thought of possibly holding my kid down to force her mouth open (god knows she wouldn't do it willingly) sounds terrible and so mean to me.

I often got soap in my mouth as a kid, they even did it in daycare. I don't feel abused at all from it, but some people are more sensitive than others.

Quoting Just Ames:" I think all forms listed in the OP are cruel and can be viewed as abusive. Whatever happened to time out? Sending kid to his room? Taking privileges away? I mean, really :?"

Definitely this!

Not making excuses or saying that I'm perfect. But I don't say c**t. I don't know where my son heard it, I'm assuming my brother or his father. I can't control what comes out of other people's mouths only my own

My dad tried that with my brother. Now he loooves hot sauce or anything spicy really. He used to get the tiny tabasco sauce bottles out of the MRE meals that were given out after Hurricane Ivan & drink them. He was only 5 or 6 at the time, so I never really took it as a cruel punishment. I would never do anything like that to my child though.

But you called be abusive & neglectful for sending my 4yo to his room. Isn't a child being LOCKED in there room abuse according to you?? I mean you did call me Mommy Dearest for it correct?

I don't agree with it and would choose something else to do. My fad Wouk make me eat soap and it made me puke blood. A couple drops of hot sauce would have been better. But unless its like crazy hot sauce than that's pushin it. A little tobacco wouldn't hurt that bad. :/ idk though its kinda borderline

My son would live to be in his room all day and play with toys. He has a tv in there too and Xbox. That will be a dream for him *shrug*

Dramatic much. It only proves you think I'm a bad parent for imposing consequences on my kids. While you think that kids should be coddled. That's why you won't ALLOW your 4yo to wipe his own butt. It would make him independent & not reliant on mommy for every little thing.
