Nope we don't either here. But from memory, they did when I was a kid, and the rules changed sometime when I was about 12-15? i definitely remember Rottis with docked tails, but I know it's illegal now.
I agree with the tips, they are a pain to put on, but may help. Or how about making the cat an outside cat if you live in the right area? We did that with our cat because he peed on everything, and he is happier then ever outside.
Can you get "soft paws?" They are little caps that you put over their nails so they can't scratch. They are harmless and come in a variety of colors. I'm sure you could order them on somewhere like amazon.com.
Honestly, I'd just keep the cat. Kids grow up fast and it won't be much longer before your child will be old enough to understand boundaries and be able to be taught how to play nicely with the cat.
What have you tried in terms of teaching your child to be nice with the cat? When she is mistreating the cat, what do you do?
I would just continue to put your cat in local newspapers, petfinder, craigslist and facebook... and just keep asking people you know to ask friends/family of theirs. Until then, I'd invest in the soft paws. Don't let the poor animal be put down.
I think it's ridiculous that declawing is illegal (I wouldn't do it, but in this case I think it becomes necessary) but it's NOT illegal to put the animal down..... when a simply declaw procedure would give the cat a home and spare it's life!

I'll see if I can find any of those claw things. Wouldn't they keep falling off?
When Isla is being mean to Bella (cat) if I'm busy ill move Isla away from her and tell her no. If I'm not doing anything ill sit down and show her how to pat nicely, say gentle nice etc, good girl nice puss puss etc.
she starts out nicely but it's like she gets I we excited and gets a quick ear yank in there :-/

Definitely, there are things I see on TV from other cultures that are totally shocking to me but normal where they live.
