Before I post what I read on cafemom (yes, judge me ) I just want to say that I didn't write this, I saw it on a post and what the actual f**k?

"If you need to be on WIC (etc.) and are not breastfeeding due to CHOICE NOT medical reasons, I don't think you should get the free formula they provide. Breastmilk is FREE and if you can't afford to formula feed the state should not be paying for it. You have FREE food for your baby. Unless you have a legitimate MEDICAL or HEALTH reason you cannot!

Drives me crazy that people can have more kids and give them formula but they can't afford it and complain about money when they have atleast 6 months worth of FREE food right freaking there!

...mmkay, go ahead bash away!"

I mean, I kind of think that's a valid point.

That is not a valid point at all.

Personally she sounds like someone who believes her way is the right way. Not everyone wants to breast feed. And just because you need help from WIC doesn't mean you shouldn't have the choice.

I can understand it.

What would people do if WIC wasn't there? Breastfeed.

That or they'd have no choice but to buy the formula.

Yep. Women would find a way to feed their baby... if it means s*****g it up and breastfeeding, or scraping together money for a can of formula. Almost anyone can get WIC, so a lot of people who simply choose not to breastfeed because they don't want to... ultimately don't even have to buy the baby food -- the state will.

I can understand her point.

I had money when my DD was born, sort of chose not to breastfeed (she had allergies to milk, soy and wheat - I was 19 and like eff that). 3 months later my DH lost his job. WIC paid for 6 months of that formula, and bless them for it.

I think that is different from knowingly having a kid, not breastfeeding and just expecting WIC to pick up the tab. The world isn't black and white.

Thing is, it's about the baby, not the mother. Yes, the best thing is if everyone chose to breastfeed. That isn't going to happen though. Some women are going to choose not to breastfeed and they are also going to need wic. I would sooner have the baby fed than wic turn them away.

well you have to qualify for wic...so it's not like they give it out to everyone...
