So my DD is 3, will be four in August and she was invited to a birthday party for a child at her daycare.
It was at an indoor playcentre. Slides, ropes, climbers that kind of thing. The space wasn't rented out soley for the party, it was the party as well as other people who had come to play.
The party mom was not able to keep an eye on ALL 20 children in such a crowded place so most parents stayed and watched their own 3/4 year old.
Some parents didn't however. They left the child at the front door and came back in two hours.
I am aware though that DD is my first so maybe I am over protective.
What age do you think its appropriate to leave your child alone at a birthday party? In what setting?
My oldest is 8 and I would still have a hard time leaving him at a party (in a public place, a house party would be different). But I'd probably be considered one of those crazy "helicopter" parents. *shrugs*
last year at our nieces party when this happened I was like  then as the party went on and the parents who were there did nothing but sit on their butts I thought, hrmmm....why do we need to be here? Its a great way to get 2 hour of shopping done, some r & r or some nookie :) :)
I think I would do it when I know he'll be comfortable with out us. Could be any age, but at 3.5 he is not ready yet.
If it were a family member or close friend who was throwing the party I would be fine. But if it were just a kid from her school I would be nervous
I'm always friends with the parents so I stay at the parties to talk to them.
I honestly don't know what I would do if I wasn't a friend with the parent.
I won't even do that with my 11 year old yet. I do sit away from the party usually, but I stay in the building. I hate when people do that to me, I really don't want to be responsible for all those kids in a public place. So I don't do it to them.

Thats what I said to DH, it was our anniversary!
I let DD1 go with my stepmom to my step-niece's birthday party when she was 2 without me(I don't get along with my stepsister to put it nicely, but knew DD1 would have fun with the other kids and likes my stepsister's daughter so felt wrong to hold her back). I was okay with it since my stepmom was taking her and knew it was her job to watch her. If they had told me if I could just drop her off that would have been a no-go. I don't think I'd be okay leaving a child at a party until they're at least 8, and even that would partly depend on if it's a public setting or home setting.
Id worry too much. What if my son got hurt? What if he went missing? Being mixed up with so many kids it could easily happen. But I always put "what if" scenarios in my head lol

So do I.
There is just like a front door that leads outside. I mean obviously you would hope staff would notice but who knows?
3 or 4? Hell no! I'm too over protective and worrisome to leave my 4 and 5 year old's alone lol Maybe when they're 11 or 12....maybe ;)
at a public setting like that i would watch. my daughter is 8 and went to a party at the ymca. i sat in my car until they were going to the pool then went and watched. she's not a strong swimmer so i wanted to keep an eye on her there. i knew it would be hard for the lady who was running the party to watch all the kids.
if it was at someone's house i wouldn't stay probably.
Honestly I don't know how old is appropriate to leave my child at party without me. I think it would depend on the circumstances. My children are only 4 and 5 years old and I wouldn't leave them alone at a party at their age especially at a public establishment. I also wouldn't leave them at someone's house without me if there was a pool involved. Also, my 4 year old is a busy body and very curious so I wouldn't leave him alone with someone else because I would feel guilty

Yup, you stayed at Lils party :) (I actually found some of my favorite pics of Tony and Lily the other day, it was from that first birthday party that you went to... her 4th I think? Maybe 3rd? Ash was a baby... I'll give you the pics if you want).
If I'm friends with the parents they usually stay, or I will stay. I honestly haven't had Lily gone to many parties with people I don't know. I was a nervous wreck leaving her at one party because I dont like the parents but like the grandparents. She came home soaking wet (I was not told they would be playing in the sprinklers) and ruined an expensive pair of leather moccasins. I was pissed to be honest.
I don't care if people leave their kid with me at her parties, I tell them to go shop or do whatever. I keep an eye on all of them and have fun. If they were hell-children I probably wouldn't invite them anyways, lol.
