Saw the cardiologist today for follow up from the echo and holter monitor....they confirmed the suspected diagnosis of SVT and said the upper chambers of my heart are enlarged, but not to the point of effecting the function of it. They gave me a perscription to take to help control it and are referrring me to a doctor that specializes more in electrical problems.
Does anyone else have experience with this kind of thing? The cardiologist and my OB both said that the beta blockers he perscribed are safe to take while I'm pregnant, but I still hate putting anything new into my system while I'm pregnant...but they said any risk it may have (such as her being small, which is ALREADY an isuse) is balanced out by keeping me safe enough to carry her more healthy.
did your svt start while you were pregnant? do they know why your heart is enlarged?
Quoting wyatt.earp.:" did your svt start while you were pregnant? do they know why your heart is enlarged?"
No...my SVT has been ongoing for years. I've seen doctors for it several times over the years, but since I also have PTSD, they've always been VERY quick (as in, before doing any testing) to blame it on anxiety and basically tell me I'm crazy. So, I swore off ever going back to the doctor about it. Which worked fine until I passed out in my kitchen and got a concussion a few weeks ago...the boyfriend put his foot down about seeing a doctor, and I was in the ER that night, which led to talking to my OB, which led to seeing a cardiologist...which led to the diagnosis.
They're unsure about the enlargement, said they'd do another echo once I've started on the medication and see what it looks like then, and probably again once I deliver.
