Well then he did it ILLEGALLY because that is not the law. Again, law abiding citezens are the only ones who obey laws...you just made the point for me. That licensed dealer as well as your friend commited a crime.

If you are worried about the illegal sell of weapons, you should take your attention off of the few people who slip through the cracks at the gun show and put it on our borders.
There's a cause to keep you busy!

How did my friend commit a crime? He went to a licensed gun shop, filled out the proper paperwork, obtained the proper permits, and is a licensed gun owner. Agree, the gun shop owner was negligent. And I doubt this case is uncommon.
I don't see how asking that the laws be followed, or loop holes be closed is a threat to 2nd amendment rights. I do believe in the 2nd amendment. We should have a right to bear arms. But there should be a process, and it should be enforced. Common sense gun laws are not a threat to the 2nd amendment. And no one has threatened to go door to door taking everyone's guns.

Quoting 11 weeks with #3!:" The problem with that is, these people dont ask for help! How the hell are we supposed to help them mentally if they dont ask for it."

This! I worked for mental health in the county I live in. We have a 24/7 open door policy. I have had to help people on line who wanted to kill themselves. NOT FUN! Many that come in are court ordered. They are embarrassed. No one wants to admit they have mental problems or having issues dealing with life. There are tons of places to go to get FREE help, many CHOOSE not to use it

You stated that they had drug charges on their record and could not legally own a gun. Therefore they were commiting a crime by purchasing one. Honestly though, I find it funny that you have such an amazing story and that you "joked" about it with your friend, yet you are for gun control?! Sounds like a story to me...

Not the same as a gun show, but I went to the Jockey Lot Saturday and there were several people selling guns at their tables. I asked one old guy what I needed to do to get one of the guns he was selling. He said I only needed the money he wanted.
I didn't buy one. The Jockey Lot was massively overcrowded and I didn't feel like carrying a pistol through the crowd all day.

Some of the vendors even had some high powered guns for sale too. It was crazy how easy it was to get one.

Just also wanted to point out that it is not possible for him to get a concealed weapons permit if he is not a US citizen. Unless he forged ID, which again is illegal. Next time you make up a story to try and improve your side of the argument, do some research. Just some advice.

Thats not true in my state. Background checks are done at gunshows and stores.

Just because he's not a US citizen, doesn't mean he's not here legally. He's legal and has ID. His driver's license doesn't say "Resident Alien" on it. Moron. Next time you want to be a b***h and call someone a liar, think your accusation all the way through. Just some advice.

I don't know if "we paid more attention some stuff could be stopped.".

Although I believe mental illness is a big problem (and getting bigger), have you seen the list of antidepressant and mood drugs that is being focused on?

It's a loooooong list.

Probably 1/2 of these drugs are used by people in these forums, alone. If you took, Wellbutrin, for example, you'd be banned from owning ANY firearm.

1/2 of the US population takes these drugs. HALF!

Where is this list? I'd like to read it.
I'm on Fluphenazine, Effexor, and Ativan. That would suck if I were banned because of meds that help me.
