Hi there. First time mom here. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if you really have to take birthing classes. There are none around me. The closest one is like an hour and a half away. Please help!
You don't "have" to take them, but I will say for my 1st they helped me prepare a lot. I recommend it, even if you can't get to a class maybe watch some videos on birthing classes....it just helps prepare for what to expect and excercises for what to do. Breathing and focus were most helpful for me. I recommend at least doing something like the videos online like I mentioned before!
Good Luck Mama!
You don't have to, but I liked taking it.
Maybe you could find a condensed one that does it in a day or two so you don't have to drive too many times? :)
Thanks! thats a big help. And to The Doctor: I would take them like that but we don't have a good vehicle right now and he works alot so if it was possible i would. I will deff watch some videos like you guys suggested and i will try and find a breastfeeding class.
I never did. My daughter was born lol. I bet you could watch them on youtube or sign up online for one.
No they are not needed altho I was a 1st time mom and I found them very helpful. Maybe see if you can watch some videos online or rent some??
I took a birthing class with my first but frankly I don't feel like I needed it. I kept myself pretty well informed by doing my own research and such. They can be helpful for some folks and not so much for others. If the nearest class is over an hour a day but you would still like a birthing class you might try looking for an online one.
I hate the idea of group birthing classes and never took any. The best birthing class I could ever have asked for was the ability to give birth to my son in my own way, without someone else's idea of the "right" way stuck in my head. I had a great midwife who recommended using a mirror, which was a life saver :) my water broke at 0748 and he was born at 0845!
I never took them, because I wanted a natural birth and the ones here only taught for epidural births. After the fact, I didn't find them very necessary.

same here! noticed the classes that were offered or atleast the ones i found were more targeted to hospital/medicated births, and hospital protocol. i read a few books, hypno birthing was my fav!!!

The one I took was absolutely amazing. They went over every conceivable way someone would want to give birth (they had a birthing center as well as an L&D at my hospital) and didn't push anything. They really encouraged you to write down what YOU wanted in your birth plan, blah blah. It was great.
