quick background: i have extreme anxiety issues after the birth of my second boy almost 5 months ago.

i am scheduled to get an iud today at 3pm. sounds like no big deal, but for me, i could not sleep last night and have been panicking all morning. my heart is pounding and my blood pressure must be through the roof. i need some kind of relaxation technique that i can practice while taking care of an 18 month old and 5 month old. i am really nervous and am starting t think i may have to cancel the procedure for fear i may pass out.

It sounds stupid, but can you close your eyes and count while breathing deep? I was so terrified to get my iud that I almost told him Nevermind, we will do pills, but he told me to try that and it worked.

The procedure surprised me, because it was over in seconds and didn't feel any different from a pap smear to me.

I've had to use that technique a couple of times with biopsies and such, and it works for me. Good luck. :)
