I used to see one. It's not that we even talked about my suicide thoughts but we just talked. I needed that person who did not want to punish me for what I was doing in life but was a listening ear who knew when to offer advice.
Helped a lot just being able to safely talk to someone on a weekly basis.

I feel like, couldn't I just talk to DH then, though? I'm just so apprehensive about talking to a stranger about...anything.
I see a therapist once a week for PTSD, Depression, anger issues and severe anxiety. She helps, a lot. Some appointments we focus on the PTSD and anxiety, some appointments she just lets me vent and tries to give me better coping skills.
It really is helping.

It's different- it's someone who doesn't know you and doesn't judge. And they are trained in knowing what to say and not to say. Something a lot of men don't have lol
It will help loads if you are completely open and mesh well with the therapist. Ive gone through several until I found the right one. She was beyond amazing.
I guess when I was a teenager I saw it as pointless, but I have been thinking about going back and giving it another try.
Just schedule one or two visits and see if it is for you and if not then don't go back.
