Boy for sure but lately it's common place for girls to carry male names so.

It's so stressful because I have a feeling it's just going to increase in popularity for girls and I don't want 3 of his grandparents to dislike his name. I'm thinking of using it at a middle name so it won't be as big of a deal if the name continues to go to the girls.. I was thinking either Levi Emerson or Jace Emerson
His daddy is in boot camp, so it's hard for me to decide since I can't talk to him. :(

Do you like Jameson? It's similar.

I've gotten grief and unwanted advice from SO step-mom all the time and when she doesn't like something I do when it comes to LO I remind her that he is my son, not hers. If you really love the name and your SO loves the name then go with it.

It is not unisex.

By origin and meaning it's masculine.

Emerson is GREAT for a boy! I say stick with it! I think the more people that name their boys it, the more popular it will be for boys. Don't let the girls take it over!

Anything ending in -son is a boy name (even though people think that Addison & Madison are girl names lol). Having said that, someone I know just had an Emersyn who is a girl. :/

I thought this when I heard the name. But i'm not a fan of popular or over used names.

I relate it more to a girl, but that's because in the What to Expect movie Cameron Diaz's character names her baby girl Emerson. That was the first time I even heard it unless I'd be talking about TV or Microwave brands. I say if you like it a lot then you should just stick with it though. Those who aren't used to it being a boy's name will learn to. ^-^

Quoting Megs!:" So I've been catching a LOT of grief about how Emerson is a girls name and if I name my son that, he ... [snip!] ... and give my son an orginally boy name. People against it; my dad, SOs step mom and his dad. For it; me, SO and his mom"

Emerson is all boy. It means "son of Emery."

But don't you know that's feminine?
