Do you walk your dog(s) with or without leashes? I don't mean taking them to the park and letting them run around. I mean walking down the street by other people's homes and traffic going by, etc.
Do you 100% trust that your dog will stay with you and not run up to anyone or into the street?
There's a few reasons I'm asking, just wondering what the ladies of BG thought.
My dog is a pit mix and super friendly but he is OVER friendly so I always keep him on a leash to keep people from getting l****d to death.
Where I live, you can get fined for not having your dog properly leashed off personal property.
Even still, no, there are too many morons on the road. It's easier to see me than a dog :P
We live in the country where there aren't any leash laws. We only have a few neighbors and we all have dogs, and they kinda run together like a pack during the day lol (they're all male). If we walk somewhere, they follow us. They've never been on a leash, but we've never taken them anywhere.
In college I lived in the city and had a dachshund, and I always put her on a leash unless we were in the fenced in yard.
I don't because Im scared he will chase someone and get hurt. He loves kids so I know if we walked by somewhere with kids he would want to go play with them. He's a great dog but not quite that disciplined.
With my old dog I would let him walk without a leash where it was aloud, I trusted him enough to know that he would not run on to a street.
With the dog I have now I just can
No! We have a huge Shar Pei and people run from him when he's on his leash standing next to me lol. I don't know what they would do if he didn't have his Leah lol!!
I do but hes 16 years old and well trained. I just dont bother because theres no need. Of course, this is when hes actually not lazy and deems to get up from his laying position. I guess he's in his retirement.
edited to add, he's well known on our block and no one is bothered by it. The neighbors stop to pet him and even call him over like hes their dog.
"Come here, King!" and throwing him bones.
I 100% trust one dog to stay with me without a leash and 0% the other. lol
However, I don't want a ticket, so one stays on a loose leash and the other tight because otherwise she will run off chasing scents. We have strict leash laws here.
No. I don't trust my dogs not to find some new reason to take off, but most of all I don't trust other ppl. Here lots of ppl let their dogs run loose all the time as it is and I know my male doesn't get along w other males so I avoid situations that could put my dog or another in danger. I have small breeds but I have a good idea of their temperaments and personalities. I figure rather than risk my dog(s) being put down for something that was totally avoidable at least

I figure rather than risk my dog(s) being put down for something that was totally avoidable at least on my end, I leash them and avoid streets where the strays and no leash wander. (They put a mama dog down a street away bc the owners nephew tried to pick up her 2 day old pups n she bit him after numerous warning growls n behaviors).
One of my dogs I trust him completely to not run off so sometimes we let him be in our front yard with out one but not on walks. The other there is no way in hell I would let her not be on a leash she would take off and she runs fast lol. The male is a chihuahua and female is a min pin.
I keep my dogs on leashes. My one of my dogs can be aggressive and the other is aggressive with his love, lol, Im afraid he would squash someone! My pit is a bred and trained pig hunting dog and my heeler is a herding dog.
One of my pet hates is people who don

[snip!] ... never had an incident or anything, their job is to protect me and my property regardless of how cute your little Muffin is. "</blockquote>
Yep n they'd be the ones demanding u have ur dogs put down if something happened. Smh. I have a dog pen, fenced yard, and signs everywhere. Still doesnt stop the neighbor kids from teasing my dogs or hopping the fence, but if something happened i know i did all i could to prevent it. Granted, I have chi mixes and fluffballs, but even lil dogs can be overly aggressive. We had a cairn terrier/yorkie mix who was nasty. He'd snap for no reason. If u moved an inch he'd attack. Ever since that dog we learned how unpredictable ANY kind can be. OT but were moving to the country and wanting to rescue a pit. Even w no leash laws out there, still not walking w.o one.
