I am not sure who I would side with in the situation. I mean everyone is assuming that the surrogate signed the contract knowing she wouldn't have an abortion but before I actually got pregnant I thought I would have been able to have an abortion no problem if it wasn't convenient. I am still pro choice but after experiencing pregnancy and feeling a baby growing in my belly I personally would not have an abortion. Maybe she didn't realize how difficult of a choice having an abortion would be. I also don't think it was wrong of the parents to want her to abort.

Quoting Amelia Margaret:" I could consider that if she hadn't counter offered. "

I didn't know the surrogate counter offered. I probably misread, but she was offered 10k, declined it, so they offered 15k??

Did the surrogate ask for the 15K??

This was her job. She made a choice. Her choice was to be a surrogate and everything that is involved. She signed a contract. It was not her choice. She could have easily NOT been a surrogate.

I think it has a lot to do with her entering into a contract that stipulated as such. I would never sign and agree to something that violates my personal believes expecially when it comes to something as important as abortion....

She said she did but then changed her mind:

Kelley had a counter offer. "In a weak moment I asked her to tell them that for $15,000 I would consider going forward with the termination," she said.
But as soon as she got in the car to go home, she regretted it, Kelley said.
Kron let Kelley know the parents had refused to pay $15,000. By that point, it didn't matter to Kelley -- she'd decided against abortion no matter what. Kron sent her an e-mail asking if she'd scheduled the appointment for the abortion.

If we had been the IPs in this case there is no way I could have had that child placed for adoption. But at the same time if the child were to be lifelong dependent, I would hate for her to be born to parents who are 40. I feel awful for the IPs.

If she didnt feel comfortable having an abortion then she did the right thing. However, I was confused about the 15K..Did the surrogate ask for it or did they off er 15K? If she wanted more money to have the abortion then shes an ass

The parents offered 10k to abort, the surrogate requested 15k (and then supposedly felt bad for asking for it) and the parents refused the counter offer.

Its a really sad situation. I understand the bio parents wanted a termination. And against their wishes is didnt happen, i find it so so so sad that parents of a child can pretty much abandon their own baby because of health defects. Even if you get pregnant on your own theres always a risk you baby wont be "perfect". I understand the surrogate didnt comply with the contract, but i still cannot see how the parents who wanted that baby in the first place could just abandon her. Thank goodness a family adopted her.

I don't think anyone is saying she should have been forced to abort. Just that she shouldn't have elected to carry someone else's child in the first place.

They offered her 10k but she counter offered 15k but then decided she didn't feel right about the counter offer even.

You can't be a surrogate if you've never had children.

From what I understand she was the one who offered to do it for 15k.

I sort of feel the same way. I really wonder if the bio mom had been carrying the pregnancy, if she would have elected to terminate.

This probably sounds bad, but I feel as though the bio parents were just like... ehh, the baby isn't perfect, so let's terminate and start all over. We have the money!:oops:

It's easy for her to say that after the fact. :?
