So it isn't legal to abort for medical reasons where you are?

I personally could never have one but Id say 8 weeks..but I've heard politicians argue that at 20 wks the baby is able to feel and that's their argument for setting the limit to 20 wks for an abortion.

gotcha. never looked into it but I figured it'd be a state by state thing

<blockquote><b>Quoting Lucas'Mama:</b>" If the baby was going to have severe health issues, I could understand people wanting to abort.. Because the kid has downs syndrome, not so much."</blockquote>

I would abort a Down syndrome child. That's my personal choice though and I understand the people who won't.

I have a disabled sister, and my other sister and I were greatly effected by it growing up(doesn't mean we love her any less).

But I would not want my child to have to grow up with a sibling who is special needs if I could help it.

it is legal I believe up until 15 wks. But I don't see the geneticist until WAY after that.

Quoting Sarah Bare-ah♡:" People with downs syndrome can have severe health problems, heart defects just to name one."

Ah okay, I wasnt aware of that. My grandmother is a special needs teacher, and all of the downs syndrome children I've seen through her work were pretty much healthy.

Quoting Kayla [:)]♥:" A good portion of Canada IS opposed to abortion, but it goes against our charter of rights. There cannot ... [snip!] ... here. But they have tried, a lot. And the USA, have you not heard about the constant bills trying to ban/restrict abortion...?"

I have heard about all of that, I definitely don't agree with a total ban. I just think that there should be a limit. Aborting a perfectly healthy child that could survive on its own isnt right to me..

I look at my children and how they struggle and I love them to my very core but I want them to be at peace. I wish I had known while I was pregnant.

<blockquote><b>Quoting Lucas'Mama:</b>" Not necessarily. I'm pretty sure in NZ abortion is legal up until 13.4. If the baby has defects, or ... [snip!] ... it's frowned upon but I don't think it's technically illegal. Pretty sure we don't have women dying from denied abortions"</blockquote>

In my experience medical abortion arnt frowned apon my midwife told me that about 85% of woman who get a positive downs result will abort.
I also know (not personally) someone who had a abortion at 18 weeks. I know that that it not something I could do but I also know that its something that I also dont have the right to judge. Everyone has there own reason. But I wouldnt be comfortable with aborting a viable fetus

I guess I'm just trying to understand their reasoning. It just makes no sense to me but to each his own I suppose

I feel like this as well, not so much for myself but for the disabled person. My brother has multiple disabilities and his life is basically a living hell, he wants to die and would kill himself if he could figure out how.

I truly believe that it is our body and that the government has no right to tell us what to do with it!

That must be so hard, I'm sorry. But what if the baby posed a danger to YOUR health?

They didn't tell me anything yet. I have to see a geneticist and a HR dr. I also don't know the full abortion laws for NY, just what I've heard.
