My mother has lived with us since 2006. She has nowhere else to go. There are times when it really stresses me out (lately) because she doesn't respect me as an adult and other times when I love having her here.
Absoluetly. I'd let them live with us even if they had the funds for their own place, which they will.
I refuse to ever allow my parents in a nursing home or facilty. I will hire nurses to come to the house like my MIL did for her mom.
I know at some stage my mother is going to end up with us because I'm the youngest. We already help her out a lot now and she'll be with us in the near future. We'll most likely build a granny flat for her.
I'd hate for SO's mum to live with us but if it ever boiled down to it and she had nowhere else, then yeah... But that's very unlikely, thank f**k.
Our mums raised us for the start of our lives... My mum especially gave up everything to make sure we had everything. It would be selfish to see them with nothing for the end of their lives, IMO. just couldn't let that happen.
I know it probably sounds strange but I would love for my parents to live with us. They're amazing people and if I had the chance to give back to them a portion of what they have done for me, I definitely would. If they were so poor they couldn't afford to live on their own, I wouldn't dream of charging them rent.

My MIL & I clash like nothing else, but I would never let her end up homeless...

Sometimes I feel like my mum doesn't respect me as an adult but then I think it's just the fact that I'm her baby... No matter what, that's how she will always see me. Half the time I don't even think she realises what she's doing.
Not to mention the fact that she has been single since I was 2 because she made us kids her whole life & now she has basically nothing else to show for her life and no one person to share it with. It's got to be hard... That's why I've always tried to include her into my little family as much as possible.
I know I'm a little late but I wanted to add - I would help my parents out by allowing them to live with us if it was the last viable answer. Otherwise, I would help them out financially.
My parents allowed my elderly grandmother to live with them for 3+ years, up until this past November when she was moved to a home. She grew progressively worse and suffered from Alzheimer's Disease. She could afford her own home but my parents felt it was better for her. Watching her forget everything and everyone was extremely hard on everyone, including my parents. If a situation like this arose, we'd have to decide what was best for everyone involved.
